I committed a bit of a faux pas when I joined the forum in that I never properly introduced myself, so I thought I'd take the time with my 100th post to explain how I got into this beautiful game and where my journey has taken me so far.

Unfortunately, I was forced to bring my footballing exploits to a premature end this season and in a bid to prevent me from glumly moping round the house, the missus bought me golf lessons for my birthday and the family chipped in so I'd have a few quid to buy some custom fit club.

Today I ventured out onto a 9 hole course, managed 12 holes before the darkness set in and learnt quite a lot about my game.

I've only got irons in my bag but my shots off the tee on the par 4's were solid and I hit 5/6 FIR. The greens (arrgh I hate winter greens) sank a beautiful 20 footer but on the hole putting was solid but unspectacular.

The big hole in my game is my short game. I struggled on all the short par 3's and anything less than a full swing was a lottery. I'll be spending plenty of time over Christmas on the heath practicing my chipping and pitching. Really need to learn to get my wedges dirty!

Anyway, I've been playing for four months now and first 18 hole round is scheduled for end of the month. The swing is getting there but is still not repeatable enough to stand up to pressure (completely fell apart from the 7th hole in). I'm aiming to be playing off 18 at the end of my first year's play (August 2010). I'll keep you posted on my progress.

It's been really enjoyable being part of this forum and I'm now starting to understand some of the frustrations you all mention such as winter mats, winter greens, rain, not taking range form onto the course!!! Looking forward to more banter.

Welcome again and a great introduction. My advice is simple. Get a couple of lessons booked. Your proper swing obviously has potential but there is probably one or two tiny faults that can be quickly fixed and getting you hitting more consistantly. Then get yourself a short game lesson and learn the art of making scores and saving pars. My guess is your probably trying to help the ball into the air and not keeping your wrists firm on your chips. Again once you have the right technique you'll be able to practice the right way and once you get the taste for a full eighteen holer with sound fundamentals you'll be hooked for life

Good to have you aboard. If you have any questions feel free to ask. There is a wealth of exeperience on here who'll be happy to help you

Hey Homer,

Thanks for your post. I had originally thought that the lessons my missus got me would suffice but now realise that I need to continue to invest. Will be buying another block after Xmas.
