Professionals swings, is there actually a "correct" swing?

Interesting you should say this Snelly, I've recently been watching a lot of videos of Luke 'effortlessly smooth' Donald and it is doing wonders for my tempo.

Definately agree that having a picture in your head of an actual swing that you feel you are trying to emulate does help.

I have quite a fast tempo (but actually my club head speed is quite slow) so I tend to picture Tom Watson which helps me feel I can keep it brisk without it getting too fast or losing my rhythm. I do however love watching different swings whether it be the languid power of Freddy Couples, the wonderful control of Luke Donald, or the athletic power of Rory.

Like many sports there may be a theoretical "perfect action" (e.g fast bowling) but the greatest exponents have always had the ability to do it differently.

I think there are only two points in the swing that are more or less the same. The set up and the impact. Inbetween is up to you. As brian said, the ball could not careless how you get there.

WOW i'm gobsmacked at some of the comments about Rory's swing. I cant think of a more textbook swing.

He ticks all the boxes.. Posture, Rhythm and Power. :mmm:

No doubt, his swing is magestic but not perfect as he can't hit a fade. Butch Harmon once said on sky this would hold him back from winning multiple majors, we shall soon see.

When did he say that?

I think that through the course of 2011 Rory proved he is well capable of winning many many majors.Fade or no fade

i think they follow the same fundamentals, but unique just becuase its impossible to all be the same

all drop it into the slot on the transistion, albiet furyk does it in a unique way due to his backswing, have good hip turn leading the swing, probably obvious to a lot of guys on here - but all thing i'm trying to work on :)

As been said lots of different swings happening, the key is consistently repeating the swing especially under pressure. I think that separates the good from the great plus a little luck along the way.

If you go over to Advanced Ball Striking, they would have you beleive that Ben Hogan had the perfect swing, as he was the best ball striker in all existance, and that every one should have his swing.
and it gets even better as the bloke who runs the forum will teach you Hogans swing, over 14 self taught modules at $200 each

So that's how JustOne earns enough to spend so much time here...

Put me down for the 2week course.

Years ago my teacher loabed me a book called 'Swing Like A Pro'. Early on in this they stated that virtually every Pro had a different swing but that there were certain things they all did.

As every Pro is generally working on something in there swing, I don't believe any of them have reached Nirvana either!

So I reckon there will always be a way that a Pro can 'improve' their swing. And there are zillions of ways I can improve mine - I'm just not prepared to do so!
