Aren't there some pro's who follow the cash? aren't there some who are loyal to their respective tours? Aren't there some who will only sign autographs when there sponsor makes them and others not?
I would be willing to bet a months wages that if if given the choice of £5 million or a major title that NO pro would turn down the Major.
Most events these guys play in aren't for history they are set up by major corporations/hotel chains etc so they can fleece us amateurs the other 51 weeks of the year by charging three times the price to play a "championship" course.

A Major win is worth far more than that over the player's career so it's not really a fair comparison.

I know, but it was an incongruous point to make for that reason.

I think cash is a massive motivator for most of them, and then glory for those that have made the money.

However, that glory can often be the legacy sense i.e. course architecture rather than titles and honours.

Same in a lot of sports though. Young and hungry drives them to succeed, with the riches comes the lack of desire. Just look at the state of English football to see what happens when you give young underachievers big money - and as a Toon fan I know more about this than most!
