I'm assuming there's a reason that a lesson with an asst. pro is cheaper than a club pro?

Reason I ask is that the Assistant at my new local obviously offers lessons and I've become pretty friendly with him over the last few weeks and we are now pretty much on first name terms, so I would rather give him my money if I'm going to get some benefit from it as it would seem that by all accounts, the pro is a bit of a nobber.

Could be that the Assistant is in this case still a trainee and has not yet completed his PGA training.

Or, The Pro is a 'sought after' coach and prices accordingly ;)

i've found at 3 clubs now the assistant pro's alot more welcoming than their main pro. Is it the fact the while assiantant they build their freind base ready for the big hit when they get the PGA stamp ;)

Last club I was a member at it was the other way around, the Pro was a lovely guy, the assistant pro was the nobber, I'd wander in and he'd ask how I was and I'd comment that I had a little problem pulling the ball (or whatever the F'up du jour was) and rather than offer advice or even say "well perhaps a lesson or two would help", his standard response was "we've got some lovely irons in stock if you want to try them out". All he was interested in was selling gear, after a while I got so annoyed with it I wouldn't go in the shop if he was in there. They had another assistant pro there at the time who was fine, so I'd just make sure I got served by him wherever possible.

My most recent lessons have been with the assistant but that was more because he was on duty when I went in to book. He has been very helpful and always make sure to check how my game is going when I go in the shop. Not unheard of for him to watch how I play the first as well and hand over a few tips after the round.

I used to use an assistant locally years ago, and he was unbelievable in sorting me out, but then he moved on to another career sadly for me.

Mind you, I used our own Pro recently, and he was good too, the important thing is you can relax with whoever it is, and simply concentrate on working on what they tell you .

When I used to play regularly at Wimbledon I would never see the pro...always asked for the asssitant, Homer J.
He knew a lot more about the swing than the nobber pro

The assistant pro who I used to see at ramside, mark rayson, was excellent, he was very clued up, and also had a great interest in the game and the player. The head pro was a nice guy, kev jackson, never had a lesson with him though as he was a really busy chap.
At Galgorm, have seen young Philip a few times and have to say, he has been very helpful too. The head pro is a decent chap, but I get on well with Philip and find this helpful.
