Pro V1s

the 50 yard shot that was much debated this week, is a hell of a lot easier to pull off with a pro v than any of the non-premium balls.

and that is where i think , if there going to ban anything , is the ball.

The golf ball , over the last 10-15 years, has made shotmaking easier. rather than ban silly things like anchoring putting strokes, High COR etc.....

Tour Pro's -- No More than 2 piece.

(and please don't shoot me down in flames)

I find the non-premium balls too unpredictable. they just run, and run and run.

So entirely predictable then!

Which side of the pin do you normally end up? Short or past? How often is that down to the ball grabbing more - or less - than you played for?

The problem with both types is predicting how much run you're going to get.
I find it easier to predict how a Premium ball is going to react compared to a 2-piece - each to their own though.....
Some shots might be easier with a 2-piece but many are not.
On balance I feel more at home with spin than without it.

Oh, I certainly do too.

But to say that because a ball spins more means it's a better ball for all shots is simply wrong imo. Just as bad as saying that because a ball is more expensive, it must be better! The Bridgestone E5 and E7 and the Cally Hex Chrome and Chrome+ produce very good (High) Wedge vs (Low) Driver spin too and those are in the 'medium price' bracket. NXT Tours S is pretty good too.

haha they are predictably unpredictable. have you ever shouted at a non-premium ball to sit down? do they listen? do they heck !! lol

I don't think there is a side that I normally end up on.

I posted on here about the day I went to a muni and forgot my golf balls. I had 1 pro v in my carry bag and had to buy 3 pinnacles. judging the roll out on the pinnacles was a lottery. even on short chips so I cant begin to imagine what it would be like from 50 yards.

what ball do you play foxhole?

Without doubt the best ball...............Z Stars are good and one or two others, but the Titleist is the best.
Personally I find z-stars a much better ball, but as with most things in golf not everyone thinks the same,my motto is if it works for you use it.

I use them. Still got some TM TP blacks which I am working my way through and in my opinion the best premium ball released and far and away better than the Penta. I prefer Z Stars or Bridgestone as they do feel firmer than the Pro V. To be honest at my level, whilst I prefer the feel and control of a premium ball, any of them are pretty good for my game

If i find one i'll use it, they are a good ball, but there is no way i'd pay for them.
I find any soft ball consistant enougth for my standard of golf and there are plenty of cheaper options out there.

I tend to have more problems with accuracy using a hard, distance ball, but thats probably down to the vagaries of my swing than the balls fault. :o

Just watching the PGA Tour and one of the pundits in the studio said, whilst discussing Jimmy Walkers drive of 347yrds, that during a chat with a senior official on the USPGA it was inferred to him that 'the balls would be next'.

That's, in combo with my rather inconsistent technique, is also the way I'd describe my chipping with Premium balls on many days.

The last ball I shouted at to 'sit' was actually a Bridgestone B-330 RX. 40 yarder on Bearwood 11th (from Blacks), admittedly from rough, that looked good in the air and landed about right but never stopped :confused:and ended up in 3-putt country - which I duly did:angry:! Imurg might be able to confirm my disappointment, but was having trouble of his own!:p

TM Pentas suit me pretty well. But Z-Stars or B-330s are fine too, especially the 'S' version. NXT Tour S is works/feels very good, if a tiny bit soft. Dont like the feel of Pro Vs off putter, nor V1 off Driver. Lethal feel and Z-Star VX feel similarly too hard off Driver. Nikes and Callaways just feel like rocks - even the Hex Black that I wanted to like.

So much of golf is what goes on in your head. There's no doubt in my mind that a lot of what makes the better players prefer ProV1s over the likes of a Penta or Z-Star is that they're told they should.

If I played 20 rounds using a Pro v1 then 20 rounds using Srixon ad333 I honestly don't think I'd see any difference in scores between the two balls, Thats why I use the cheaper ad333.
