I played all 27 holes at princes yesterday and as I am not a lover of links golf courses because I think visually they look rather bland, but even from the drive along the seafront leading up to the course entrance and the road that winds itself through the middle of the Dunes and Shores courses I was pleasantly surprised.
We started off on the Shores 9, teeing off the first I noticed a bit of standing water on the fairway, I teed up and promptly smashed my ball straight down the middle of the fairway. I scored 18 points on this 9 and thoroughly enjoyed playing the shores IMO probably the best of the 3 loops. Aswe progressed it was only the 1st fairway that had any standing water everywhere you looked the course was in excellent condition the fairways were better than some greens that I have played on before. The greens were very fast and all putts showed how true the greens were running.
Next we played the Dunes, I scored 13 points on here with 2 blobs. Again the green staff are doing a superb job in keeping the water at bay, a few of the bunkers were GUR but after all the rain we have seen recently this was to be expected, even the GUR bunkers were manicured to a very high standard and green staff working hard to pump out the water and get them back in play. The bunkers on all the courses really are hazards if you go in some you take your punishment and play out backwards.
We stopped for lunch at his point and the food in the spike bar was very good (if expensive) a,though the breakfast was part of the deal when we got there and that was lovely.
We went back out then to play the Himalayers this 9 was a bit of a disappointment really after playing on firm fairways all morning this 9 was quite wet with a fair bit of standing water. This course was not as testing as the others but we rushed through it as I needed to get going I only scored 12 points on here.
We paid £50 for the day for breakfast and unlimited golf (£10 off if you have a county card) as far as I am concerned it was money wel spent and I hope to play there again very soon. Whe the fairways dry out completely during our impending summer you will get plenty of run on the ball.
So my overall mark for this course would be 8/10 only let down by the Himalayers
