Premium ball for low handicap?

Just wondering if any single figure handicaps on here don't use a premium tour ball?

The reason i ask is i'm just starting to catch up with golfing technology again and am amazed at the choice now.

While playing with my brother (off 5) he tends to spin the ball off a few sloping greens on his course with his spin milled wedges. This gets me thinking that perhaps with the groove technology on offer now a "harder" ball may suit him better.

But all the single figure-ers i know "automatically" play a prov-1.

I played a few rounds with an nxt tour ball and ,even with my old clubs, had no bother stopping it on the greens, although the flight was noticably higher.

I have no bother stopping the ball on most greens,but thats only half the story with premium balls.For me its more about "feel" than out and out spin.
I've used Pro V1's for the last 7-8 years,and have yet to find a better allround ball,although i have a dozen Callaway HX 56's that i use when its very windy.I'm not sure if my swing is good enough or repetitive enough to consistently reproduce the same strike,but i do believe for me,the HX's fly straighter in difficult conditions.

As a rule, i would always play with a premium ball. Have been switching between ProV1, Z-star and B330. Most if not all single figure guys will be teeing up with a good quaility premium ball on competition days. Some might even use 2 during a round if the first becomes scuffed.

Yesterday, I managed to lose 3 balls and my round was shot to pieces. Found a scabby taylormade cheapo ball on the 8th and used it for the remaining 10 holes. It was like hitting a rock and refused to check up on the greens.

I only dropped 3 shots with it. Go figure.

Will still tee up a soft ball for better control around the greens tho.

I have been using the Nike Tour D lately and I must say they are the bees knees.£40 for two dozen at Clubhouse golf.

If they are good enough for Paul Casey they are good enough for me.

Nike balls and I just dont get on. I hate the look of them, they look cheap as chips to me. I dont like the feel of them from the club face or the putter face. I find I cut them up quicker than any other premium ball as well.

I like the Srixon Z-STAR, Bridgestone B330RX, Callaway i(s), Pro V1 or TM TP Red, I'm not sold on the Penta yet.

I had been using the Bridgestone B330 for a good while but the last 3 times out have been using the wilson staff dx3 and they are really very good.

The dx3 isn't a "premium" ball I wouldn't imagine but I really like them.

Thinking of trying the FG Tour, anyone tried them and the dx3 and noticed any real differences? Other then the FG looking like a real golf ball that is!

For donkey's years I have playing Titleist NXT Tour. Only recently switched to Srixon Z Star XV. Never really liked Pro Vs or IXs; just didnt suit me...always found the water

Sadly the words "premium ball" and "low handicap" have been erased from my brain since the aliens took me away for experimentation. The sent me back with an 80mph swing and a box of noodles.

I use ProV. I would rather use a harder ball, but when one gets one of those nasty short sided chips then you need the spin of the ProV, standing there with a ball that doesnt spin that much and knowing best you can do is get it to the fringe on the other side of the green isnt much use. As all the premium balls perform fairly similarly, I would rather have the warm feeling that when I do need to spin the ball, if I hit the shot well, the ball WILL spin.
