Im on a roll tonight aren't i?.. :D

Anyway im sure im not the only one on here with a young family very little money or time to practice and moderate facilities..
So armed with this i decided to set up a net in my back yard for hitting balls into which i got from my builders next door...its used around scaffoldings to stop stuff from falling off...Works a treat.. :) :) :)
Is it really necessary to see the ball flight?
As last week was my first week with the net at home and i saw a marked improvement in my ball striking at the weekend already..Deep divots have gone to shallow ones and i was hitting nearly all shots with a draw all because i put the weight back onto my heels a little more in the backswing. It had me attacking the ball im thinking from the inside.

So now i have decided to save 10 euro's a week just for the range but im going to spread this out over 3 nights for ball.Just so that i can see my ball flight and make sure what im at ,at home is actually working..It works out at 3 euro's for 40 balls..

I dont drink or smoke so im not really tied for money for that crack.
My chipping is spent at home in the yard too..Mostly technique as i havent the facilities of different heights of rough.
I do my putting on the carpet at home an spend about an hour once a week at the club before my competitions as its easier than leaving the family during the week.

So can one get better by practising at home or am i just wasting my time?

I think you have to see the ball flight. YOu can't tell with the naked eye how the ball is going to fly in the 5 yards or whatever between you and the net.
Most of my shots are fantastic for the first 5 yards......

Oh man im playing like a pro out the back and like a knob on the course... :D :D :D :D :D :D

It is working for you so why not? Your shot shape sounds great so why doubt it? I have read a couple of books that have said it is actually better to practice without seeing the ball flight and people improve quicker. I think one was called "How to win the three games of golf" and had plenty of drills for you to work on.

Practice at home does work if you do the right thing. But what Imurg says about not seeing the ball flight is true, you can easily be mislead hitting into a net. But it also has its benefits in that you can be hitting a few balls each day without leaving your house. I would say to watch your tempo doesn't get too quick, easy to do when you are hitting it well. Also work on alignment in the net too.

Thanks G..Ill look that one up...Its going to take me a bit to trust the shape though as i was playing with a fade for the past 18 months or so that seemed to be getting a little worse..
I think it may have been down to really going after the ball and swinging to hard at it..
Since i put the weight back on my heels more(i think...I might actually be spreading my weight properly now as opposed to having it more on my toes and fore foot) and slowed down my swing my shots seem to be better and further.

I think seeing the flight helps, but I'm sure you know from the feeling if it was a well struck shot or not. Just grooving a swing that makes good repeatable contact is well worthwhile imo.
