More to the point - why are there are so many stray balls on the fairway? The club should surely improve their netting if so, or take steps to clear the balls up on a regular basis.
I used to play at Tilgate where the range is flanked at the side (and back) by two holes of the 9-hole but I would never see balls on the course.
