Looking to tap into the wealth of experience on this forum:

I got a practice net from my mother in law for Christmas, the kind of thing I've seen in Argos etc with a target/pocket with "chipping" or something written around it.

Are they of any use?

I was thinking that if I used it to practice getting a strike that felt right it would save some of the large amount of time and money I spend at the range.

Thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated :)

They are of use simply to get hitting without travelling to a range and when it's dark. Big downside is you get no feedback on how you hit the shot because you can't watch it.
However I live a long way from the nearest range so in winter evenings it is good to keep the swing going under an outdoor light then get to a practice area on the weekend to see how well the ball is flying. I also use mine in the season to warm up before going to play. There are a lot of guys spending a lot of time at the range on here which is fine but these places aren't cheap, £4 or £5 a time generally.
The £100 I spent on mine was a good buy.

I've not been tempted by a net......thinking about building a putting green on the west lawn though......not sure if the lady of the manor will be so cool with that idea!!!

Should I google "how to build a putting green?"

Got one of those cheapies from the local tesco. £20 and it shattered as I was putting it up. How about a Huxley Rota-net?.......

God I miss the golf channel.

i think when ur practising u need feedback ..that`s how u learn.. i live 5 mins down the road from my range so i feel for the people that have to travel any distance to practise.i woldn`t like to use a net for any length of time. an old pro that worked under john jacobs told me practise doesn`t make perfect..it makes permanent.
