I think I could do with a facility at home for putting. I could build something in the garden, but I'd struggle (with the best will in the world) to make something even half good.
I wondered about putting mats....are they any good? do I really want one with inbuilt hazards? Is the lounge carpet and a mug just as good? I've tried the landing, but there's a wicked break in it! Do any products get anyhwere near the speed of real greens?
Any thoughts, or should I phone for a taxi?

I use one of the putting mats from Masters golf. Gives a good six foot of room to a cup up a little slope (helps encourage you to hit it firmly enough on real greens to keep its line).

Its not the greatest in replicating speed or roll but if you want something cheap that will at least give you a target to aim for it is worth the money.

nothing wrong with the idea, theres some advanced putting matts at a range near me and they are brilliant in terms of green speed, but very expensive i'm lead to believe. If your looking for a budget putting matt like I used to have your just as good with the carpet. And to be honest if possible theres no substitue for a real practice putting green at your course.

Thats my opinion anyway

i got a putting mat for christmas off a relative and dont rate them at all you can hole it every time its so easy and doesnt recreate anything even remotely close to course conditions but if your just looking for something cheap to get your stroke in shape then i suppose they are ok.ian mc

carpet and a putt returner machine works for me. Also have an Izzo mirrored mat to get eyes, shoulders and putter head in alignment (good aid). Needs to be a short pile carpet though and doesn't help when pet cat stalks ball every putt and never lets them go in!!

I've got one, made up from blocks of polystyrene, and a "putting carpet" with two holes in it. You can get various distances depending on space. Takes about 5 minutes to assemble. You get little blocks to adjust the heights at various stages, so you can put varyious slopes on.

It was only £150 or so, but I'm buggered if I can remember the name of the Company, they're based in Perth.

I'll post when the name comes to me!

i got one from argos (shhhhh, i was injured and needed some kind of fix) TBH its a bit cack, to easy to hole and only six foot. Only thing its good for is getting the stroke right but the carpet is good enough for that.
