Post Brexit buying habits

Firstly, this is not a thread to discuss the rights or wrongs of Brexit/A50/ Trump.

So looking at the distinct possibility of Peugeot buying Opel, and the obvious implications for the Vauxhall workers jobs(not that I like Vauxhall) would you alter your choice of purchases (whatever the item is) if the item you want is now not made in this country?
Personally, I would want to be buying British made and if I can't it would be non EU ( and if it's a car, either Japanese or Korean) and I have always been one to appreciate German build and engineering standards.

Anything in particular there? Hyundai, Kia and Suzuki are all made in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary for the European market so for example so would you buy them?

Honda, Mazda would probably be top of the list.
Non European parentage made in the EU would probably be ok, but anything of EU parentage and not made in this country I would ignore.

It's not just about cars...

Not had a bottle of HP sauce in my house since production was moved abroad... Will nearly always buy UK grown tomatoes over Dutch and Spanish ones when there's a choice... Etc etc...

I will admit, i dont even look where my food is grown, if i need tomatoes, i buy tomatoes whether dutch or english. I'm not racist. (thats a joke btw)

To try to bring this thread back to reality here are the value of imports across the three EU countries earlier posters have revered to.
UK: $663B
France: $6544B
Geramny: $1130

All figures suppliedby the OEC and are for 2014.

So as is usual in this type of the debate, the reality is far from the perception.

So you don't use or buy anything produced outside of the UK ? Are you ok with foreign companies producing in the U.K. ?

And, how have you arrived at that conclusion

Where there is a choice I'll buy British over 'stuff' from overseas...

They are my hard earnt pences after all...

And, I'll spend 'em where I choose thank you...

And, for the record, I don't drink Starbucks coffee or watch sport/movies through 'hookey' links either...

Don't think me face will ever see the return of me nose :(...

I believe 'charity' begins at home. If you're successful at 'home' then you're able to help your friends and neighbours. So 'Yes' I buy as much British produce I can.

Our EU 'friends' have never felt the need to honour the idea of a level the playing field within the bloc.

For example. France has subsidised its companies through the back door and any company making French workers redundant will find it hard and the import of substitute products made elsewhere challenging. Germany has also found ways of assisting their manufacturers and the redundancy payments due to their workers are huge -many times those of a UK worker. Consequently you'll see Peugot/Opel retrench to Europe as it will be cheaper to reduce UK manufacturing capacity. Spain and France have turned a blind eye to over fishing.

The UK has always tended to follow the spirit of the law and implemented the EU policies - unfortunately this honourable behaviour has left British manufacturing shafted.

Tis a tad ironic that Trump is being castigated for his 'isolationist' trade policies yet its been happening on our own backdoor for decades.

If I think of some of my toys, I wonder where they were made?

Golf clubs; not UK.
Laptop; not UK.
Cameras; not UK.
Music system; not UK.
Car; not UK.

Doubt it will make much difference for me.

My uncle, used to only buy British made items, everything he owned was British made, he also refused to wear named brand clothing, like Adidas for example, his argument being if they want me to sponsor their clothes they can pay me.

Even his coffin was made in England from with wood from trees that had grown in England.

And, therein lies the 'problem'...

During our time in the EU too much of our manufacturing has been spirited overseas too easily...

Which goes back to my original thought in that we might be Brexiting a decade or so too late...

In my time I've owned British made clubs, tellys, cars, cookers, footie boots, golf shoes etc etc...

Struggle to find much in the way of domestic goods made in the UK these days :(... Not good :(:(..

Car I am currently using would've been amongst the last made at Ryton...

I have had two Vauxhalls....fine cars.
I would not buy any of that foreign rubbish.

British cars for British workers I say. I think we all agree on that.
I don't really understand the Vauxhall / Opel thing, they are building the same cars. But Peugeot is trying to buy Opel now. Does that affect Vauxhall as well? Would that be a French car then?
