Take your point, although I honestly won't watch either, but I really just despair that the default position of broadcasters is to feed us dross and expect us to suck it up.

In the run-up to Christmas I will most probably spend my time reading Proust and listening to Mahler to be honest. :)

...and ranting on internet forums.

I use all the crap telly programs as an excuse to spend more time at the range during the winter evenings

Saturday nights down the driving range? Don't get me wrong, I spend more than my fair share of time at my local range, but I think that might be pushing it even for me!

That Kareoke comp has produced artists that have becoming some of the biggest selling in the last 3 decades maybe further back

It maybe not to your taste but it has enabled a good deal number of people to find a career and a platform that they have used to launch a career.

Music is all about personal taste - as is television

I manage to avoid the media about X Factor as do I avoid the program .

Maybe the stuff about X Factor appears on Other programs because that's what the majority of viewers of that program want

X Factor etc is easily avoidable but it appear some will prob go out of their way to be offended by it

It's interesting that the "don't watch if you don't like" comment usually comes out in these kind of discussions.

I started this thread in the full knowledge that I don't have to watch if I don't like - well here's the thing - I don't like so I don't watch. No-one forces me to keep the shows on - honestly - I know where the off / channel change buttons are.

What I find irritating is that the mass media goes into overload and the flaming things are almost totally unavoidable in one way or another. ITV in particular floods many of its other programmes ( even the news sometimes) with so-called items on X Factor that are nothing less than plugs for the show. And as for newspapers and magazines...cah!!

It's only a karaoke competition with somewhat higher production values than what you might find down The Dog and Duck.

*Puts Mahler on CD and dons velvet smoking jacket*

Strangely enough I never see any mention of X Factor competitors in any magazines or newspapers I read. Although Ronan Keating was in Today's Golfer the other month talking about his golfing exploits, does that count? If so I am very angry.

And the BBC is just as good/bad at cross promotion of their programs as ITV is, they all do it.

Lowest common denominator TV, pandering to oxygen thieves and idiots.

I expect a few people's wives or partners watch programmes that are being discussed so it's prob not best to generically insult everyone who watches a program you don't like

Not just my wife, I do as well.

I am deeply upset that someone thinks I am an idiot. Most people at least give me the opportunity to prove it before they make their conclusions! ;)

In my opinion all of these so called celebrity programmes and talentless shows are just rubbish TV .but each to their own.
Personally I watch sport ,movies ,quiz programmes, and documentary programmes. Along with current affairs.

It tells me you like X Factor and I'm a Celebrity. 😄

I quite like I'm a Celeb myself and as others have mentioned,Bake Off and Masterchef are good shows too.

Although I believe the original format for Masterchef was the best - i.e. members of the public simply display their cooking prowess - without all the bellowing and stage-managed faux drama of the current format. It used to be pretty much like Bake Off is still until the hot shot media school graduates 'bent it out of shape' in the relentless pursuit of change for change's sake.

I'm confused ( easy I know )

How can you start a thread and a rant aimed at reality TV shows and celebs etc then go on to state that you like Celeb and cooking programs etc ?!?

I'd tentatively argue that...
Its a sad state of affairs when all you can find that's worth watching is Sky Sports News and then only because Kate Abdo's on....
Personally speaking, 99% of TV is worthless drivel....

Just thought Kate Abdo deserved a quote

I find tv terible at the moment when it's on I spend most of the time flicking between channels, I can't even watch the golf as Mark Roe and Wayne Riley are just awful I have to turn the sound off.
