I've had two, a driving and a pitching lesson plus I watched numerous lessons online. I'vedropped 6 shots with a lot of practice as well. I think lessons are invaluable but in my opinion for what it's worth.
1. find a pro that you can relax and get on with (obvious I know)
2. try and practice the fundamentals (grip and posture) prior to a first lesson these can be done with one club in the house with a mirror.
3. you need to practice often to see any significant improvement. Going on the course is fine but if after 6-7 holes your getting frustrated and possibly embarrassed then you have been better going to the practice ground for and hour.

Pretty tragic indictment for teaching pros as a trade (& none in particular) that 4/10 (passionate) golfers don't do lessons

I thought the same, tough industry! Yet I think all those quoted as having lessons have found them to be benefical and improve their golf.

But the reasons for not having lessons could easily not having anything to do with the pros

In the past, I've refrained from having lessons as I got more enjoyment from learning on the course or at the range. Those little breakthroughs that make you think that your next round is gonna be in the 60's..

However, now I've passed 40 (:D, I've realized that I have neither the time nor the patience to carry on this way, so I've got a lesson with a highly regarded Pro tomorrow.. 1 hour of expert advice, with all the information recorded and sent to me via E Mail.. My next round is definitely gonna be in the 60's

Where you off to mate if you don't mind me asking?

0 for me this year - knowing i was going to be away for 4-5 months and therefore missing the summer i haven't bothered with any.
Next year will be different though.

I've had 7 this year.

3 just after the year started, working on short game, then hardly played during the summer.

I have had a further 4 since October. Almost started form scratch and for the first time I feel I understand what i am trying to do and where I have been going wrong. The good strikes are really good now, with, even the sound of the strike sounding much better. Most of my problems were stemming from a very poor takeaway and lack of a solid base. Both of these have been sorted, but still require ongoing hardwork to keep on track. I had a lesson this morning working on the follow through and where the club should be. Really awkward to start with, but working better by the time I finished. The lesson was meant to be 40 minutes but as it was his last lesson of the day it ran to over an hour. We did spend some time trying to dissect Glasgow Rangers problems, but that would take an awful lot longer.

As a result of these lessons, I now know I needed major surgery to progress. How many people think that the pro is merely trying to get them to play the best with the swing / set up they have instead of recommending something more radical.

First time poster, long time forum stalker.

0.

a very round number but I haven't felt the need based on 10 rounds for the year. All reasonable.

Had 6 with Stuart Williamson at Clydeway Golf. I would fully recommend if you are in Glasgow area

I can now hit a controlled draw
I have 10% more distance
Cut Hcap from 9 to 7.4

Another 6 booked before the start of this season

Short game and putting will be the focus and a 6Hcap the 2015 target

First one was free with membership renewal just a go over basics before season started
then one for putting andone for short game and yes they did help especially the putting lesson.

Added another one to my total a couple of days ago and he took me on course to do a few holes and some bunker work. Pretty pleased with the way it is going at the moment but I've thought that before.
