Polished shoes!

That baby wipe tip is champion.

I went out last weekend in very boggy conditions and only just got round to cleaning my shoes yesterday. A bit bad, but wiped in weary soapy water and they look a lot better now. But do have some discolouration in the creases now :(

My new contours are sparkling white so will def rob a pack of the little ones wipes!! Annoyingly the air compressor at ours has been out of action for a couple of weeks!!

My dad always said that shoes make the man. Clean shoes is attention to detail as they take a bit more effort to look good than brushing your hair. I think it is a matter of personal pride. I like to good on the course. I spend money of my clothing to look good and feel good. I do not just go down Matalan and kit myself out for a fiver. So to then go on the course in dirty shoes would just be stupid. My clothes are perfectly pressed and clean when I play so why should I not clean my shoes. Would you go out in the trousers you wore last time that are covered in mud as clean will only be dirty within 2 holes?
Here, here, well said that man +1

Clothes don't make the man! Never have - never will. Politicians always wear a nice suit with a clean, polished pair of shoes - are they nice men?
Gary Glitter always had nice clothes and clean, polished shoes - is he a nice man?
I could go on.

Of course I would never wear trousers more than once - that's just daft and a poor argument. You sweat in trousers, etc so they need to be cleaned regardless of whether they've got mud on them. Shoes do not.

I've yet to hear of a valid argument in the thread that would make me clean/polish my shoes.

There is a simple valid argument for polishing shoes, this is not aimed at you before you start, it is not a personnel attack but you asked for a valid reason so here is one I think is valid, others may choose to disagree. Anyone who plays golf in mud encrusted, dirty shoes will always, always look like a tramp, regardless of how they act, how they treat their fellow man, regardless of how much money they have in the bank, regardless of which designer clothers they wear and regardless of what they think of themselves others will just think "Scruffy so& so" That is my take on a valid reason

So every Golfer is a tramp...

After 3 holes at the moment everyone has muddied shoes ergo everyone is a tramp.........

In a way its like washing the car at the moment. Spend time and/or money doing it and within 3 hours it looks exactly the same as it did before you started.
If you want to clean your shoes feel free - but don't lecture those that don't feel its worth the time. When we stop walking through mud I'll clean them.

????????????????????????????????????? what has Gary Glitter and politicians got to do with looking smart and making a impression. I know nice men who look like a bag of S@@@ tied round the middle and I also know completes dicks who look smart. It is all a matter of personal pride in my eyes.

First impressions last I always believe. Look at this way..... You are interviewing 2 people for a job. On paper they both have the qualifications and experience to do the job. Then they turn up to the interview. One is in a smart suit, clean shaven, clean shiny shoes. The other has a crease up suit, muddy shoes unshaven and hair a mess. Which one would you prefer to represent your company. The man who takes pride in their appearance or the one who does not give a damn?

But trust me. There is a difference between everybody having muddy shoes after 3 holes and somebody turning up on the 1st tee with 3 weeks of mud caked on their shoes before they even tee off. Seriously, there is. I did say trust me. Anybody who turns up on the 1st tee with mud encrusted shoes is a scruffy, "couldn't give a ***" tosser. End of

.
Massive difference between walking 3 holes and getting your shoes caked and turning up on the first tee with mud on them from the last month because you have just slung them in the locker and forgotten about them. That's not even worth debating. Errr what Smiffy said, sorry didn't see that post, ignore mine Smiffy said the same thing.

^^^^^^ what he said. Dirty shoes = tosser. Shirt untucked = tosser. Put the two together = municipal golfer.

I would never (ever) set foot onto a golf course with unclean shoes. A creased up jumper that has been lying crumpled up (damp) in my bag for a couple of weeks yes. But a dirty pair of shoes?????? Never.

Says the Man who would turn up with a musty smelling, creased and probably muddy jumper! That would make you look like... what?

Blimey - you've not read anything I've written, have you?

I've stated that in a working environment it is imperative that one looks smart and presentable. I always wore a nice suit and clean, polished shoes. End of.

My argument is regarding the cleaning of golf shoes. Why should I clean something that's used to walk through mud and cack? If I turn up with clean trousers, a clean shirt and a clean jumper but dirty golf shoes and you choose to think less of me then that shows your own, inbuilt prejudices. Your loss.

Also, the Gary Glitter comment was aimed at the 'clothes maketh the man' statement. Evidently, they don't.

Errrr.....in my defence. I hardly ever wear a jumper. I played 36 holes at Cooden and it was getting a tad nippy after the 2nd round. We were waiting outside the clubhouse for the last groups to finish and I looked in my golf bag and there was a jumper in there that I had taken to Forest Pines. So I put it on for half an hour to keep warm until we changed to go into the clubhouse. So I didn't "turn up in it" and it wasn't musty smelling or muddy. And I was a little embarrassed wearing it. But AW doesn't seem in the slightest bit embarrassed wearing muddy shoes. Viva la difference!
