Midweek medal today. Seemed quite popular.

However, the course was absolutely grim. Not the fairways and greens (they were fine) but the state of the rough.

Either so deep (1st cut) you could lose a ball anywhere or mowed with whopping great muddy tyre tracks. No local rule for that.

All going along great then the course struck back. I lost a ball in an area no bigger than 1/2 a green and had to walk back. Two holes later tyre tracks, lost balls, all going on....made a 10.

Most of the field gave up and N/Rd. My partner battled on bravely until about 5 provisionals were taken on just ONE hole, then he too, threw in the towel.

Maybe, given the weather, 15 yard fairways are just too narrow and tyre tracks should qualify for relief.

Anyone else suffering? It has been terrible, but are courses set up for the conditions to at least allow sensible golf?

:(

4th best gross score today. With a 10.

We played ours yesterday and was surprised it came out with a CSS although a small field and I was within buffer even though nett 5 over par. Fairways boggy and new water features and greens downright nasty with some feeling like you were walking on blancmange. I manged to mainly stay out of the rough thank goodness but it wasn't conducive to good scoring golf.

We do have a local rule for tyre tracks though thank goodness as the course is strewn with them.

Hoping for a dry week weather-wise and some improvements next weekend.

Let's hope so. It's not just my course, it was the same last Friday at the "other" course in town.

I just don't get it. We have great greenstaff and they put in SO much effort, but I reckon they are told by someone (a bit mad) to make the fairways super-narrow all the time.

Our rough is pretty brutal, doesn't take much to lose a ball even in the 1st cut and if you do find it getting out is the hard part. CSS has gone up mor times this "summer" than it did all winter and that can only be because of the rough.

When I left the CSS was 3 over par.

I've since learned that one of our top players missed the 18th by 3 yards and they never found it. I only found mine by chance.

and, just to add the final insult, I didn't get 0.1. What do I have to do to go up?

I managed to lose a ball in the first cut of semi on Tuesday. Ridiculous when you can be no more than a yard or so off line and not find it. If it had found the clag then hands up it was a crap shot but this was a well struck shot

Grim. Not only at mine then. :(

I'm going to buck the trend here.......played Mill Hill (North London) in a society meet today.......course was really wet underfoot and thick rough.....playing off 6, somehow managed to get 36 points including 2 blobs & 3 x 1 pointers.........cut to 4 for my trouble.........if only I could do it at my home club in the medals!!!!
