I had an occasion to use a (cheap) Fazer Firepower 4 Hybrid this weekend to see how I would take to utility clubs – I've only been playing for a month and my shortest iron is a 6i.

I was hitting it around 160yds (probably not a huge distance I know, although i think this is around average for an amateur hitting a 4i perhaps?) but it is early days and otherwise i had reasonable success with it. I think i was reaching 150yds with my 6i the last time i used it.

I read a great quote the other day: "There is no 'right' distance for each club, there is only your distance"

I want a Hybrid (of better quality) to take the place of a 5i/4i for around the £50 mark. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

By the way, I was hitting it 160yds with driving range balls. I've heard that these balls, because they are worn, over used etc., don't give a true reflection of distance... on average how much further would a new/good ball travel?

Thanks.

I have 2 recommendations at about the £50.00. The first is the MD Golf EQL. Top club with high quality shaft and have seen them available online for as little as £40.00. The other option I would put forward is the Cleveland HALO. This is a great club but has been replaced by the Hi-Bore so can be bought dirt cheap.

Just to let you know they are only £39.99 on Pricebuster Golf. They also have some good prices on the HALO (conincidently had an email from them this morning about these prices)
