Our course is hosting a Pro Am tomorrow so I was looking for a game elsewhere, none of the friends I usually play with are available so I was looking at the Worsley Marriots website and noticed they had places available for single players. They apparently add people to existing bookings so I booked a tee time, now I don't mind playing with people I don't know at my own course, but I am strangely apprehensive now.
Am I being silly?

Yeah your being silly! Worsley Marriott is Tom tit. You would be better off knocking it around a farmers field!

No matter what the course is like , enjoy playing with different people. I've met a lot of very good people/ golfers playing at other courses. The very odd time there's one that you wouldn't want to play with again, but you will meet interesting people from all walks of life.

I agree, but if 2 people have booked round and then find someone else thrust upon them they may be resentful of someone else spoiling their round.
Most comps are played in 3 or 4 balls, so they'll be happy not to be just a 2 ball, plus some added talent can't be bad.

It is yes - every year I play St Endedoc in Cornwall when we go down there for the family holiday. Every year Im allowed a day off to have a knock and I call up and ask to be teamed up with anyone who is looking for a game. Every year bar one ... miserable members aside...this has happened and Ive had some great times with new and interesting people from all over the world. People from riot police, politicians and even a chap from Dubai who made swimming pools! very successfully! He actually invited me out to his club in Dubai - The Montgomery which was very generous of him. On one occasion we had such a laugh and got well and truly stuck into the single malt afterwards with a couple of coppers and an antiques dealer :p I had to get the missus to come and pick me up as I was sh**faced! She's now well accustomed to to a round of golf taking over 6 hours!

i played yesterday with Imurg (whom i have played with before) and Fundy and FullThrottle (not met before)

1st tee, 1st up.... knobbed it about 1 yard (Seriously, check fundys post with pic of proof!). much ribbing and banter, was allowed a very charitable mulligan! proceeded to half the hole!

Moral of the story, you will play some horrors, but so will everyone else! its just a game and we all make mistakes! one of the best days of golf this year for me, genuinely had a fantastic day out and look forward to Imurg and my revenge on them after being beaten on the 18th..

I ended up catching a 3 shall up a few week back.
Rather than letting me go ahead they let me tag along.
Had a good laugh with our bad shots. Even managed a couple of good ones including a long putt.

it's good to meet up with strangers as you never know what level of play that are at.
And interesting conversations.
I wouldn't mind meeting up with folk off here in the north west. :)

Where are you based diablo?

Well as it turned out I played with 2 guys from Romiley golf club, both off around 20, we had a nice round although the weather turned awful.
It is hard to comment on the course itself due to the conditions, it was a lot wetter than my own course even though its less than a mile away.

I'm not bothered wither way. Some times I'm looking for a quick round and don't really want to add another 90 mins on by playing with 3 others. Other times I'll join if asked.

Although on holiday recently I played at St Austell, and as the 1st was busy I went to the 10th and was joined by 2 elderly gentlemen members who had the same idea. I was hoping to get 36 holes in on the day but I joined up with them. Which was a bit of a mistake as they were both pushing 85, pretty deaf and on every hole one guy took a driver and hit it about 90-100 yards at best playing what looked like a flop shot. And the other guy hit 6 irons about 70 yards every time. Luckily they stopped after 9.

They were decent company, but it was a bit tedious when they were playing their 3rd shots before I hit my second. And believe you me, I am not that good anyway.
