I used to play with my mate in every medal and competition going in the first year I joined my club. we ended up playing with a guy that had noticed our names were always together on the timesheets each week and advised that he thought it wasn't the best for your game as you're not learning anything new from other golfers. ever since then I try and play with different people every week and you start to pick up on certain shots you've maybe never seen played before in certain parts of the course and it makes you think about doing that next time and seeing if it can help.
familiarity can help I think but once you've got over the nerves of playing with new people then I definitely think it can be beneficial.
