Playing on your own!!

Due to work/home commitments, darker evenings and the threat of divorce!(not me and not only Golf) I am struggling to get a game with my regular playing partners.
The only option to play for the foreseeable future, is to have a round on my own, which does not overly appeal to me
There are many reasons I love Golf, but the company and competiveness of a game, is something that I would really miss if I was playing on my own!!

I know a lot of guys go out on on their own, any tips??

I know I could post on here, but sometimes I only know at the last minute and I would not want to let anyone down.

Play with 2 balls, a yellow and a white and on the 17th decide which colour your going to be and which colour your mate was.

Sometimes it's good to get out yourself. You can take your time and work things out.

I tend to use solo rounds to work on shots and try things out rather than get too caught up in scoring. I find it a chance to put range work into practice without the spectre of 0.1 back looming.

I play a lot of solo. I just treat it as a bit of practice, maybe try shots I wouldn't normally try, also I see if I can work out a better way to play a hole rather than just bombing the driver.......
Whatever, it's better than working....

I actually do something similar! I mostly play on my own as i don't know anyone at my new club yet, but if i nip out for 9 holes i play 2 balls- one "safe" as i would normally play it in a medal, and one "go for it". My course has loads of risk and reward holes so it lends itself quite well. I've yet to lose with the safe ball!

Makes it interesting though, and also shows you where you can take a bit more risk

Love playing golf on my own,

Even if it's only half a dozen holes after work.

Normally play one ball off the tee then two balls from 2nd shot on.

One ball I use a full set of clubs, the other ball I can only choose from 4,6,8,Pw,Sw, putter.

I score the balls as matchplay, it's amazing how many times the half set wins.

Other times I'll find a quiet hole where I can see approaching players with a couple of holes warning, hunker down in a bunker and practice.

Sometimes I just take my lad (6 yrs) and caddy for him, just hitting my own ball in to the greens with a wedge and putting out.

same position as you. and i do the same as everyone else really.try new shots/approaches with 2 balls. solo rounds are really prep rounds for a comp.
i find it most useful on the par 3s, working out what to hit depending on the pin position and wind.
enjoy yourself though, i enjoy a round on my own just as much as i do with other people, for very different reasons.

shouldn,t be allowed, played the other week and saw 3 one balls on the course, surely theres always someone to get a game with, cant see the enjoyment of playing on your own

I play mostly on my own due to work commitments. I use it as an opportunity to try new things, and also to see how shots would have worked with different irons (when no-one is around obviously). However, no-one will believe you if you get a hole in one, which makes it interesting on the tee when the ball is getting close to the hole. I have been known to pray for the ball not to drop, as a hole in one could be a once in a lifetime experience, and I would rather people believe me...

Deffo play two balls, I sometimes play 3 balls in certain shots ( and on the green) I played last week with no driver( only 3wood) to have new approach shots to play that the norm

I'm new to the game but one of the biggest attractions was the fact that you don't need a playing partner. Have to say that I thoroughly enjoy solo golf; total switch off.

Im actually looking forward too playing on my own, from Saturday onwards! I have to rely on lifts to golf, and so getting a game is often quite hard, but I get my first car on Saturday, so my social life is now going to magically disappear, and the golf course is going to be my new buddy!

I don't mind either way. If I play alone I usually play matchplay against the course, bogey. If its really quiet I'll drop a few balls in a bunker, or several balls on the green and just practice.

Im a huge fan of playing alone. Its great to experiment and if things go wrong.... No one knows... Other than the ignorant 2 ball giggling away down the parallel fairway!!!

Play many times on my own. But its suprising how often I finish the round in a two ball or three ball. The last time out I met two guys on the third and joined them. Hell they were good it really lifted my game to try and match them, played some of my best golf. Even had an birdie on the long par five. Never even pared it before. After the round thanked them and went to put my clubs in the car. Decided to call in the shop after and there was one of the guys I had played with. Turned out I had just played with the new Club pro. He never let on in the game.

I often play solo rounds but have found recently that I play worse! I noticed I start lifting my head to see where the ball is going. I lose more balls to!
