Playing golf tonight - Back to Persimmon!

This reminds me of something else worth noting from last night. I hit a Ping i25 8 iron approach to a green last night from semi rough and made such a bad swing that I almost missed the ball with the impact mark of fresh grass being right at the toe of the club. Cue much muttering under the breath and turning away in disgust. Playing partner then says nice shot and I am told my ball is on the green and when we get there it was 15 feet from the flag, pin high.

There may have been an element of a flyer from a grassy lie but all the same, I was really surprised and can only attribute the result to the club head and shaft technology in my irons. It absolutely saved me a shot. Dreadful swing, shocking content but the i25's got me out of jail.

Quite interesting I thought.....

Not too surprised to hear of an incident like this. I've thought for a while that this is where the club designers have earnt their money. Couldn't begin to quantify the exact difference it makes but sounds like you got away with an errant shot there - would it have even made it to the target with old technology?! No disrespect to your skills :)

Hat's off to Ping in the 80's (as far back as my experience goes, I'm afraid) who really pushed the perimeter weighting technology which of course is still developing today. I like the bladed feel of clubs but the ones I play are definately not the same as Apex's, MP's and Staff's around when I was a kid. Nice that it can help out amateurs like ourselves who don't have all day to develop peerless technique.

Honestly if it was 1987 and I had made that kind of connection with the Titleist Tour Model Forged irons I had at the time, then the ball would have struggled to go 100 yards and my hands would be ringing too!

I could probably post a pic as I bet the grass is still on the club from last night. Genuinely, nearly missed it. :)

I still have a couple of persimmon drivers in my garage and have kept saying to myself that I will take them out but never do. The furthest I have got so far is a quick swish in the garage, but they soon go back in the bag of old clubs when I see how small the heads are. However, this post is definitely going to make me take them out again now. Maybe not in tomorrows medal, but one evening when I am out on my own:)

the first game i ever played was with a borrowed set that had wooden woods back in 2006 when i first started but had nothing to judge against then.

Id love to have a try with some old clubs again, as i only started to play in 2006.

Here is the Ferrari paint job Rapture and a comparison with the 1986 Mizuno Pro!

Terrific paint job; personally quite like to see more colours being used on clubs. Final nod to the Mizuno though - that's one elegant club.

I'm disappointed. I thought with your traditional take on the game you would get a wood wrap for your rapture, not bling red!

Oh Murph! Why didn't you suggest this sooner? That's a great suggestion. Wood wraps for drivers is an excellent business idea.

I only went for red because it was already mixed up and going spare.. There is still some Maranello paint left if anyone wants this done?

Thinking of having the Mizuno Pro done next myself...... :)
