Went to Celtic Manor for a Sunday Driver, played 2010 & Monty.

2 rounds of 76, being +5 on 2010 (SSS of +2) & +7 on the Montgomerie.

Well chuffed as you can imagine.

Highlights were birdieing the par 5 9th (20 yds short of the green in 2 from 570 with no run) and birdie 2 on the 17th.
I had a crack at the 15th over the corner from the blue tees and was pin high in the right hand rough. The hole is actually harder if you lay up down the left.

One thing we did was win a free round each on either the Monty or Roman Road, by virtue of doing the par 3 challenge.
As a result of this we will be going down sometime and will probably stay in the Holiday Inn over the road for a night.
We'll want to play another local course the next day.
Any suggestions?
Perhaps St Pierre?

Great golfing!

St.Pierrer was in a bit of a state for a while, but they have probably finished the work by now. Nice rather tha\n brilliant when I played. Rolls of Monmouth v. poular with people around here, or courses further into S.Wales (Pennard on gower?) but haven't played either I'm afraid,

St Pierre is (was) awful, although what it is like following the money and work thrown at it is a guess. However most of the holes are at the bottom of a hill amongst some lakes so it will have taken a hell of a task to make it better draining.

The Rolls of Monmouth is fantastic and it'll be on your way back out of Wales too.

The Vale is a resort course near Cardiff, hosts some lesser tour events so should be decent.

If you want some links golf, 40 mins West on the M4 and you'll get Pyle & Kenfig, Souterndown & Royal Porthcawl all a few minutes off the motorway.
