Played golf on my own for the first time tonight

Quite strange if I'm honest. Felt a bit more freedom to start off with, was playing better shots with nobody standing around staring at me,also enjoyed being able to play a 2nd ball a few times and practice a bit. As I got into the round I missed the company and banter you get playing with mates and as I got to the last few holes I felt like my game suffered from having nobody there to keep me concentrating.

Anybody else experience the same things playing on their own?

I like it. Sometimes the banter can get in the way and you make silly errors by not concentrating so being on your own and having to focus can be a good thing. Not so much fun if you are playing badly and you really need someone to crack a joke or lighten the mood

I've done it many times and you are def right to start with you can relax and play your shots but my the end the concentration can fall off. I also find it hard to spot my ball especially in the evening with the sin coming down!

I hate it but I'm not going to get any better unless I put the effort/practice in so I can catch up to the ability of my usual playing partners. It's starting to pay off now and a couple of times I've been invited by other solo's or two-balls to join them mid-way through a round which has been quite rewarding in itself.

Sounds like it may be a good thing in a way, as if you can improve it and keep your concentration alone, it'll become easier when you have company. Could your drop in concentration have been caused by tiredness?

I love playing solo rounds, especially in the evening when no-one else is around - a great way to clear ones head after a crap day at work!! Nothing better than dropping a few balls and practicing around the greens too. But I know a few people who can't stand playing without company. Each to their own!

It wasn't too unpleasant, I'd do it again but maybe limit the number of holes I play. Not sure if tiredness could be a factor, I felt it was more down to the lack of competitive edge you need to keep you concentrating as you get near the finish. Who knows?

One thing I did notice a massive improvement in was my putting from 6ft outwards. With nobody there to ask for an opinion on the line or pace I just picked my spot and they all seemed to be dropping. I think that's something I'll definitely take with me out on the course in future, don't look for confirmation when I know what I need to do.

Posted something similar last tues week , guys i was to play with couldnt make it so i went on anyhow , didnt like it & wouldnt do it again , missed the banter & the craic , did not enjoy it at all

No different than going to th range on your own IMHO . Would rather go round on my own than hit 200 balls down the range

Way I see it is that it is practice to myself. I prefer to practice on the course which costs me nothing than goto the range and buy balls to just bash. + I get to learn a bit of course management. I need all the help I can get at the moment. Lol

Have never done a full round but often 9 or so holes on my tod.

Lqst monday night went out and had the front 9 all to myself. Nice weather, peace and quiet, mucking around with chipping and putting was actually very enjoyable.

Love it. There is no decent practice range on my course but if I time it right I can park myself on one particular hole and practice for up to two hours working on every shot in the bag.
