Play or practice....what do you do more of?

try to play once a week and practice once a week as well. If I work from home I can nip round or par 3 course twice in about 1 hr 10 mins which is a perfect lunch hour session as I live a stones throw from the course.

Find that when I hit it well at the range I struggle on the course. So when the longer evenings come back will start getting onto our course for a few practice holes.

i have bene practicing alot more recently due to working on things from my lessons but the last week or so ive been quite slack as had a sore back but will be back on it again next week

In the summer I'll play 4/5 rounds in the week. During the winter I'll play 2 round a week (weather depending). If I feel I'm struggling somewhere in particular I'll practice for a couple of hour before heading out for 9 holes.
I cant do ranges. I bounce off the matts and shank wedges. I never shank wedges on the course.

In the winter I play every Saturday and hit the range once a week. Once the lighter evenings are here I'll play twice a week and practice once a week but the practice sessions are mostly at or on the course as in hit a few on the range practice putting and chipping and then play 5-9 holes.

Range 2 or 3 times a week at the moment and play 18 Saturday then 18, sometimes 36, on Sundays depending on the weather.

Just back from injury and trying to get the swing back to where I was this time last year.

Its probably 50/50 for me at the moment but any practice I do is on the course, play 2 balls off the tee, then a few approaches from different yardages, then throw a few balls around the green, into bunkers etc.

this is me in a nutshell. much prefer to be out doing it on the course. ill head to the range 2/3 nights a week when its wet and dark.

I practice more than I play but that is just because I don't have the time to play. The range eats up an hour or so which is acceptable to HID. She is less enamoured with me buggering off for 5 hours at a time....

last summer it was 1 range session and 1 round a week, occasionally 2 range/2 rounds so I guess 50/50. Since winter set in I havent practiced barely at all and have had 3 rounds in last 2 months.... god help me as I am off for a round in an hour and its either gonna go well or shockingly bad :)

I tend to only practice my short game on the practice green. There is no place like the course to work on your game. Totally different playing off a mat at the range.

I have noticed that when this type of question is aksed you get different views, i think it depends on what your aims are.

If you just want to go out and enjoy your golf at the standard (handicap) that you are then if you play 2-3 times per week then I think mostly you could achieve that and not need to practice too much.

When you are trying to improve/lower your handicap unless you can play loads I think most would agree you ahve to practice.

Id be interested to hear from maybe some of the 'dont like/never paractice' guys, who quite often are single figure guys - did you practice a lot when you were starting out or have you reached your level purely by playing.

Personally I enjoy practicing and will try and get to my club 1-2 times per week at first light to do some sessions before work and then I will play minumum twice a week. As others have said this would probably change more in the summer.

I am currently off 13 so looking to improve, If I got down to say 6/7 and didnt need o practice, i still would as I enjoy it but would spend more time on the course.
