Sitting at Toddington services on the M1 reflecting on a truely magnificent day

Lee Westwood: What a nice guy, proper gent, very funny and so talented

The Karsten Lakes Course : is a really lovely course, and a real test of golf with water featuring on quite a few holes, greens were in very good condition which is amazing as the course was incredibly wet.

In fact I think we were lucky to get on at all.

Thanks to mike and the lads for organising a "money can't buy" day for us

Fuller report later

I'm knackered

Yep, no matter what it is GM know how to give the forum readers experiences you can't buy. Been reading the tweets all day in a geen eyed jealous admiration. You could sense the fun you al had with Lee. Well done GM and glad you all had a good day

Was a phenominal day !!!!!! Lee is a really genuine guy, down to earth and he has a great sense of humour. You could also definately sense all the time that he's a steely competitor and very focused.

After breakfast and the q&a , Lee gave us a clinic for an hour or so and went through his bag hitting shots as though he was warming up for a a tournament, whilst answering more questions. He can really bomb it, but his swing was so controlled. He's has an i20 that he's looking to get in the bag with a similar Aldila RIP shaft to that in his G10 and he was explaining how he preffered how the i20s went throught the turf better than his i10's. Was all really interesting

Then the golf comp , was great to meet and play with Mike, Craig and fragger. Nice course, and a test in the bad weather, lots of water and the rough was unplayable!!! I have to mention that Fragger at one point was explaining that he cant and never hits a draw.....cue the next 3 shots gently turning over right to left , one of which was a 7w to 20ft on a par 4 where he had 2 shots. He was therefore christened "four for four, i cant hit a draw" fragger !!

Oh, i almost forgot to mention that my 39 pts snuck 1st place too which was just the icing on the cake!!! I cant smile wide enough :) :)

Has a certain ring to it I think

Imurg will be shaking his head reading that

well done Andrew on winning you were very steady throughout, 3rd place was 33 points, I got 30 points but that was with 5 blobs.

The last 8 holes went 3 blob, 3 blob, 3 blob, 3 blob and it was my driving getting me in trouble, when I drove reasonably well I had a good hole.

Too tired to write more now, Off to bed dreaming of a wonderful day

Glad someone else has had to put up with his antics.........

No grown man should have 2 shots on a hole - especially Fragger!

I can take it, im a grown man

Enough about that, back to the day

For those of you who havnt been there Gainsborough GC has 2 courses Thonock Park which is at the bottom of the hill, and Karsten Lakes which is on top of the only hill in Lincolnshire.

It is also home to Ping UK HQ and their famous fitting centre.

Karsten Lakes is par 72 6721 yards off the whites and a maturing parkland layout with some lovely holes, some of which are over water, others you have water as a hazzard feature.

Many of the holes are Par 4's of 400 yards plus which often dogleg slightly and are therefore a real challenge if you are in a bad position after your drive.

The Rough looks thick, but its actually very reasonable once you get in there, although in certain places it is nasty. another feature of many holes is a band of high rough in front of the tee boxes, which will catch a topped drive as several people found to their cost. carries of 130 yards to clear this are not uncommon. So some of the higher handicappers had real problems.

Once you clear the rough, it is a very fair course, the bunkers are well placed although many were like the beack at low tide because of the rain. The greens were true although slow, again the rain effect with some steep inclines and tiered greens .

I felt I had a good chance of scoring on every hole and it is a course I would love to play again when it is less boggy and at only £25 midweek a bargain in my book.

I think that they only opened the course because we were playing, it was so borderline, but it didnt spoil the game

Report back later with more on Lee Westwood and the Fitting Centre

What a day! Spot on! Course should have probably been shut as was very wet but that did not detract from a good day. Westy came accross as very down to earth and it was a joy to watch him hitting balls. Got some great pics of westt but also of my little un with me and westy ( one for the future).
Massive thinks to GM.

Met some nice people who I am not sure what their usernames are on here!
Didn't get home till nearly midnight after a 230 mile drive home but defo worth it!

From the first few posts and twitter feed Sounds like a brilliant day was had by all you lucky ones!
Sure more will be revealed shortly, look forward to hearing about it really and am very envious! :)

i had my clubs fitted at GAINSBOROUGH fabulous set up and well worth the drive from merseyside, played the lakes course but as this was 10 years ago it hadn't matured but still a good track, going up there again to get my new shinys done, well done boys sounds like you all had a great day,ps hope westy didn't give putting lesson!!!!

It was a superb day. Good to meet some of you, sorry I didn't really get to chat to anyone after the round, I was focused on devouring the huge roast dinner that you had all already enjoyed.

The one to one time I had with Lee was just an incredible experience. I don't mind admitting that hitting a 7i in front of the worlds best ball striker is an intimidating experience :)
