need advice on this one.Playing off hcap 18 at the moment started playing 2yrs ago, looking to purchase a set of the i15 with my local pro who is going to custom fit.Do I go for these irons or are they a off my radar due to my handicap or will they help my game in lowering my hcap, any feedback would be beneficial, thanks all.

Think you're on about the G15's Pete

i15's are aimed at the mid-low bracket so you're at the top-end of the level. Having said that, they have a bit of off-set to help square the face and they are pretty forgiving. Topline is thicker than, say, MP52's or the like but its not that bad.
Just because I couldn't hit them for toffee doesn't mean much.
Get fitted and as long as you can hit them you'll have a set that should last you well into single figures.

If your going to a recommended Ping stockist and fitter you have nothing to fear. You'll come out with a set of irons custom fitted by the best custom fit manufacturer bar none.

Enjoy the experience, I know i did.

Don't go in for a fitting for i15's go in for a fitting for Ping's or for that matter a set of golf clubs. If you go in looking for 1 particular set of clubs you could be compromising your game.

If you want a specific manufacturer thats fine, but don't go in for a specific set of clubs especially from Ping because they sell there clubs individually and you could end up with G15 long irons i15 mid irons and S57 short irons. I know that this is probably a bit extreme but you get where I am coming from, you may find some clubs work better for you from different sets.

Just make sure whoever is doing the fitting has a good selection of sets for you to try. Then go out and enjoy your new clubs.

they are ridiculously fat (topline). i would say ping have done a bad job here, therefore i would recommend any mizuno set that would be suitable for your game

I agree, Pete. Both i15 and G15 are dispointing to look at at address. The i15 3/4 irons have far too much 'junk in trunk' as they say. They often get good reviews however.

Lots of good replies. :)

I agree. Don't go in with preconceptions

f.w.i.w. I think players off 18 (genuine) are totally able to use clubs designed with less GI features. I used clubs designed for better player from about 20 downwards (to 8) and preffered the smaller heads/soles and less offset.

TonyN has a set of Mp Mizunos and he hit them better than his X-20s from day one. That may have been the C/F helping.
:)

hi thanks for advice with regards to fitment it will be with my local pro at my golf club who is a recognised ping stockist.Does this matter much that it is not a ping main outlet?

I have hit the I15 a lot and I'd say it has the benefit of being one of the more forgiving "lower handicap" clubs. I don't think they look too bad at address and the I15 certainly looks less chunky than the G15. I have always shied away from Ping because of their clunky look but I found the I15 easy to hit with a good trajectory. Even the 3 iron was easy to hit.

If you are going to a Ping fitter then go with an open mind as their are a few models worth looking at. With a shaft thats right for you and the correct lie I think you'd cope with the I15 though
