Ping Blueprint irons

Hit it again today flushed it, but the shaft in the demo isn’t for me and it doesn’t feel as sweet as the Mizunos ..
So have arranged a fitting for the Mizunos. I am really confused as to the mix of hmb and mp. But the fitting should give some direction, I hope.

I saw a Rick Shields video where he gets a handicap golfer in to try out new equipment.

I think it was Taylor Made blades they were hitting... guy was absolutely astounded by the short distances he was getting.

I guess a lot of the GI clubs have stronger lofts, which might have been to blame. However as nice as blades looked, I'd take some convincing it was going to help my game at all... and I would only consider blades in the higher numbers, with chunky mid to low irons staying in the bag.

Combo set would be nice.
Short iron blades 8/9/wedges.
Might go that way next time.

Would def be interesting to see this during a fitting... but still not sure of the benefit for a handicap golfer to hit a blade 8 or 9 iron (albeit a massive spectrum in terms of ability and speed).

People talk about more feel... but by then the shot is gone. If you feel a mishit... will it really help? Especially if your mishits have a worse result than with a CB?
More workability with a blade... yes. But also then a hook and slice is magnified?
More spin.... maybe, but a cavity back will likely have more height and might stop a bit quicker also.

Ultimately the reason that Pros hit blades is because they generate so much clubhead speed that they'd launch a Ping G500 iron into orbit.
My guess is the reason more than a few amateurs are hitting blades is vanity.

I got a set of Ping S56 a few years back as they were a steal (and sold on for a profit) with the idea of using them to improve strike. Good when you caught them near the middle and big drop off when you don't but even the middle ones were shorter than the I25's was using and would be shorter than my current I Series irons. I do think the lofts on most GI clubs are stronger but the benefit of the additional help on off centre hits a big plus for me. I would consider a combo set but having blades in say 8, 9. PW I'd have to ensure there wasn't a massive distance gap, especially from the 7 iron and compared to what I was getting with the current line up

It's not only about swing speed, head shape, head size etc Other things come into play when choosing the right iron for each player - for example I can't use an iron with too much offset, so something like the i210 is of no use to me (as proven at a fitting), and hollow clubs spin up too much. Therefore I automatically have to look at the "players irons", be it very small cavity or blades.

That's not vanity, it's just how it is.

have a look at this ..
I think that we are all getting hung up on what blades were 20 years ago .. they are not the same today the technology really has moved on.
My thinking is HMB 5,6, then mp20 7,8,9,PW but I am having an internal debate with myself about the 7 iron.. the 7 iron is the last of my pitching clubs and what I would say is a scoring club. My 5 and 6 are just to gain yards, but they do need to have some consistency in distance .. so I want to get away with being slightly off but I don't want a "hot" shot etc..
The MP20 and the JPX919 tour and the blueprint for that matter, were easier to hit than my current mp52 in 7 iron, hence me thinking I can get away with the mp20s from 7 iron up.

I hit the ping irons very high.
Ok with long irons but I prefer shorter irons to fly a bit lower.
My only concern is blending a set for distances.
My ball striking is good so not really an issue.
Am going to ping in the new year for a full bag fitting so just trying a few out over the winter.
AP2s at the moment are really nice clubs so ping need to be better than these.

Yes me to ,I hate big offset makes me pull everything.

I believe that there may be a Ping iBlade 2 on the horizon so worth watching social media.
