I grew up listening to PA and for me there will never be anyone to replace his dulcit tones, his voice is so calming and his knowledge of the game is first rate. He never fails to throw some gems into his commentary he knows as well as we do that golf on tv can be a tad dull at times so his special little insights help to lift the boredom.
Euwan Murrey is frankly second best in my opinion, he's good but not PA. As for Madhill, women on any golf course do my box in, they know F,all about the game, now vacking, they are first rate at.

In my book, Peter Alliss is up there with Brian Johnston (Johnners)

But I have yet to hear him talk about a bus coming towards the 9th green or about a nice cake sent in by Mrs Westwood

Fragger :D

I agree that he is one of the last iconic commentators in the mould of Carpenter, Pickering, McClaren, Coleman, Allot, Laker, Maskell

Yes he can be prickly and non PC but he can also paint a vivid picture. I think he is coming to the end of a great career and would like to see him go out at the top rather than becoming gaffe prone and a bit of a fool

I would humbly suggest that she knows more about this wonderful game than you give her credit for.
Yes she may have second guessed some of the shots today but her reputation amongst her peers is second to none.

To suggest that a leading coach knows nothing about golf is pretty insulting but there again by your comments you come across as an old fossil.

You still haven't said she is any good as a commentator though. She may be most knowledgeable but she is hopeless at commentating.

He's certainly good at what he does, having said that, his off course antics over the years are not good.
He's known for being a little un PC and speaking his mind, the phrase "people in glass house's shouldn't throw stones" springs to mind, along with the word Hypocrite.

Just to clear up my part in this....My statement was based on fact and I don’t care or does it matter a jot how much knowledge she has. To say Ernie is going to play a half shot with a fairway wood was laughable. Then, to say for Fowler to stop the ball was impossible, her words, was just ridiculous. The ball landed, took one jump then stopped dead.

All her playing and coaching knowledge didn’t help her on this occasion and for to make two major gaffs one after the other prompted me to make my post.

Remember that she's on the course, normally some 40 to 50 yards away ( as are most on course commentators ) and doesn't have the benefit of the TV pictures, also she is, as most commentators are making a prediction as to what the player is going to do. This is based on experience and a little bit of luck and yes they get it wrong sometimes as did Ken Brown later on .
Is it women you guys on here seem to have a problem with ??

My only gripe with the roving commentators is that some of them insist on telling us where the ball is going a second after it's been hit.
This is not the radio. We do not need to be told where it's heading. Let us watch it for ourselves.

I need all the help I can get - especially when the cameraman loses it

I like Peter Aliss, tv golf isn't the same without him despite the frequent mistakes. Saw him, Brown and Hazel close up at Castle Stuart last week. Hazel is better looking in real life than on tv!

John Inverdale had Alliss on radio 5 Live earlier, a real gent and told a funny tale about him and Alex Hay at the womens british open some years ago.

They interviewd Tom Watson too, the guy is a legend, pure class - told a good tale of his first hole in one (he's had 15 now!) when he was just 12.
