Sorry mods but this was in Golf International mag.
He was stating he doesn't want to coach anymore youngsters as he has seen too many change for the worse when they get a bit of success and he doesn't like their lack of respect. Is he talking about anyone in particular??

He doesnt coach Rory for swing nor putting though? He does need a kick up the behind but I think that will come with time.

Nobody said that he did coach him though? McIlroy really has to watch what he is doing as he is in danger of becoming another kid who didn't fully realise their potential.

At least he has time to start putting things into perspective.I think that his recent change in management is to blame for the current slump in his game, and he does indeed need a bit of a slap sometimes! I respect Cowen for mentioning this,he is a great coach.

Said it on another thread relating to Rory...

Hands up anyone who was the 'finished article' at 23?

I don't know if I was the finished article at 23,but I knew how to respect my coaches(thai boxing in my case) and be humble. As I said before,he has time to change and I hope he does,he has an insane talent!

Mcilroys getting some seriously bad press at the moment. I know some are looking towards his current Burd as the problem, but a lot of it seems to have stemmed from when he left Chubby Chandler and ISM.

I Think he said that Chandler was "leading him in the wrong direction"

It seems he's doing that all on his own at the moment.

Yes, but 'respect' is a big part of the teachings around martial arts... Used to be able to say the same of boxing but, sadly, I don't think thats necessarily the case these days...

It seems that he is in dire need of a man to man chat with his pal GMac,a golfer who always conducts himself well in my opinion.

He is a kid, although that excuse is probably wearing thin now. I hope he still realises his potential. Just needs a couple of breaks in fortune and he'll be back on track.

I like his attitude so hope this is just a little blip.

he may well be his friend BUT he is also a competitor, and is that why he has well paid caddy/manager or even his mum and dad.

That may well be true, but either he isn't listening or they are not talking some sense into him! He used to be such a nice lad,I hope he gets back to his winning, nice guy ways.

So are we all sure Pete Cowan is referring to McIlroy?

Anyhoo I find the whole McIlroy mania too much. He was touted as the next Tiger which he clearly isn't as Tiger was in contention way more than Rory and at an earlier age. Tiger dominated and Rory has never really won when being pressed hard like Adam Scott was yesterday. McIlroy is a classic psychological case of believing your own hype. McIlroy could still be the new Tiger though! He clearly oozes ability but he needs a caddy and team behind him that are willing to kick his backside. Some players need that sort of push while others respond well to gentle encouragement. Don't know McIlroy but I'm sure he is more hacked off than us lot at his recent slump. Can't be all about the money. However somebody should be talking to him about these things (I'm sure they are) and oh to be the fly on the wall! A Major per year is not outwith his ability.
Apart from the slump McIlroy is still a good player with the crowd and media. There's a lot to like about him.

Nicklaus, Seve, Watson, Faldo, Woosnam, Lyle, Palmer, Player and Westwood what did the all have in common?
They all had form blips on more than one occasion in their careers.
Top pros are just like us they run into and out of form.
Nothing too serious with Rory so don't start pressing the panic buttons yet.
