Pet hates on the course that other golfer's do ?

I actually don't mind a slow pace of play at away days. nowt worse than realising you are on the 12 th before you know it.

painfully slow days at home are another thing.

Anybody with one of those extendable ball retrievers.

The people that spend five minutes working out the exact yardage to the pin with whatever combination of devices they have, then work out it's 240 yards (which is obvious without resorting to laser/gps/course planner etc). Their maximum distance with driver has been 220yds all day.

The two above are often the same person......

I've got a ball retriever, whats your problem? should i go rooting in undergrowth and risk a nice wasp sting?Even worse, i might pull a thread on my new hugo boss jumper. WTF has it got to do with you.

How annoyed I get on the course depends on how I'm playing

The thing that does get to me though is golfers who stand on the green marking there scorecard

2 1/2 hours is not rushing! If I'm out on my own and get a clear run, then 2:15 is easily achievable and that includes messing around with (missed) puts. Anything over 3 hours is a pain IMHO.

Herein is the problem, people got out and start EXPECTING a clear run. I bet you can't handle it when you come up behind 3 or 4 groups of 4 balls. I flew round 12 holes this evening in 50 minutes.... doesn't mean I won't expect a 4hr round next time I'm out. If there's other people on the course they are ALLOWED to be there, unfortunately ;)

I agree. But if you want to take your time on the course then expect and be polite enough to let people through

I never said that! I said with a clear run I can do 2:15 including extra putts.

What I did say was anything more than 3 hours was a pain and it is.

My other one is people who are absolutely regimental about the rules but hear me out on this. The rules are the rules and we must all play within them I 100% agree on this fact BUT..... What I can't stand is the guys that are anal about every single ruling that is likely in your 4 ball with the exception of the ones that apply to them! I like to call these people the rules Gestapo because if you have to look for your ball their watch comes out and they make sure they are there when(if) you find it to see you identify the ball,or alternatively they tap the watch thats it you've had your 5 minutes walk on or its the firing squad! Switch that round they have their 5 minutes so you all go ok thats time and walk away but there they are still hunting 10 mins later when your all on the green waiting for them! If only Herr Flick would abide by the rules he so imposes upon you to do so...

Was out with one of those on Sunday. Insisted, incorrectly, that there was no relief from greenside sprinkler head when in line and close, but in the rough. His own offences were.... rolling ball with club on fairway (Winter Rules still valid) without marking, asking opposition what club they'd used for tee shot, not marking ball on green before lining it up, playing out of turn in match and having 15 clubs in his bag!

The high handicapper who doles out advice as though he's Butch Harmon.

... thank you for stating the bleeding obvious.

Been the victim of a few of these too.

Probably been the victim and cause of quite a few of the other gripes in my time.

My particular gripe is the guys that think that the cause of slow play is the group in front - when it's either 4 o 6 groups in front that happen to have had a problem or just a(n over-)crowded course.

What gets me is when you've had a tie arranged for over a week, your opponent turns up at the last second before the pre arranged time, and announces that he's in a hurry as he's to pick up his wife/kids/granny so "we'll need to shoot round".

No. I'm not going to rush just to suit you. Organise your life better.

you dont have to look? Hard not to notice a 6ft canary walking down the fairway

Once you've seen them though you don't have to then watch them to see if their any good or not , oh yes you do I forgot , you won't know whether to get angry or not if you don't judge their game ;)

I own some well loud trousers and am crap so just fighting me corner :)

People who dress loudly when they're crap at golf. If your gonna draw attention to yourself then you better be good. Also, waiting FOREVER for a green to clear[/QUOTE

I guess the loudly dressed weekend warriors dress this way as it makes them feel like a golfer, every little helps I suppose. Mind you maybe they should spend the money on lessons or just spend the day digging in the garden rather than dig up the fairways.

Absolutely love this reply. Nearly choked on my tea!

slow players in front, really get to me i have even shouted in the past when it took nearly 5 hours to do a round, the bull that they say there is people in front of them and can not let you through and then when you get to a hole where you can see the holes in front there is nobody there. We have a famous group of them, all think they are tiger woods and truth is all totally crap, every hole all 4 of them each going in the trees and looking for balls for ages. should be banned

What irritates you on the course when you see other golfer's doing this ?
For me it is when you see some waiting until the green which is still 300yds away clears and then hit the ball 150yds, also when players stand on the green and start pointing and counting out there shots and mark their card on the green.

Not sure about this one personally. One of our greens I have now hit several times but not every time, as we are expected to wait until the players in front are clear of our best shot should I wait till they have cleared the green or risk hitting one clean out the middle and hitting them?

The ones that get me are not replacing divots and not repairing pitch marks on the green. No need for either and the course suffers more in the long run from both.

Sometimes I get up to the course mid afternoon say 3-3.30 and it can be pretty quiet some days during the week, so I can usually get round on my own in 2 and a half hours.then just as I am getting round to the 10th because their maybe a
few going out off the 1st you then get a group who won't wait and then butt in on the 10th in front of me seemingly totally oblivious that i have just finished the 9th leaving you waiting on every shot, eventually letting you through 4 holes and an hour later.Grrrrrr

I was very annoyed today when Tiger Woods started up chainsaw in the garden next to the 12th green when I was just about to putt.

Slow play and the arrogance of not letting you play through. If there is a group creeping up behind us I'll take a seat and let them play through.
I got three mates into golf last year and their lack of etiquette is hilarious. I'll book a tee time for a threesome and two of them will turn up with more mates then wonder why seven people can't play together! Faffing about with tees, balls, talking, walking on your putting line. You name it, these blokes do it. Gotta laugh...

Honestly what is funny about that?

What is difficult about hitting your ball, walking after it, a look at the green, waggle, hit it again????????

Golf is a straightforward game. People just bumble about because they are used to it. Three hours is all that is required to get round a course if you don't fart about. Some golfers need educated.

Ahem!
