After over 50 years of playing this game of ours I have finally succumbed to my lowest competative score ever.

Full handicap allowance (22)
2 shots on 4 holes.
Points scored ,
20,
nine out 11 back.
Never thought age would wither me like this.

Only plus was I enjoyed the course and the company.

This was my second season and really struggled at the start off of 25, my first three scores were 22, 23 and 20. Picked up later on and managed a 40 in August.

One of my FC's in a competition in September went out in 18 and scored 3 back for 21. He was not long off of the tee and I told myself at halfway that I must learn to play consistently like he was up to that point!

I'm sure we've all had days when nothing quite goes right and the score exaggerates the problem! I was having some poor - consistently in the low 20s - rounds a while ago, but something (I think it was actually getting significantly more roll!) happened that has meant I haven't scored less than 30 for quite some time! Now it's just a case of finishing well!

Either you have never experienced any swing issues or you only play comps when you are swinging well!

Single figure stableford points over a 9 are easy!

Played my first ever comp on Saturday the closing stableford comp before the two courses get turned to one for the winter and shot 26 points off 16 handicap which I wasn't happy with but hadn't played for 3 weeks building up to it so really my own fault.. picked up on 6 holes aswel so if I maybes of had a point or 2 on them wouldn't have had that bad of a score

I only remeber a 103 in my first ever medal, my first ever competition actually.

Picked up a few penalties from not knowing the rules and 5 putted one green.

Took those lessons on to win the next two competitions.

It's the only bad score I remember as it was my first, I learnt a huge amount and I had heaps of fun. It showed me I can conqour nerves, learn from my mistakes and much more. It's a bad score certainly worth remembering.

If it was the Tashyboy effect Mal you would of been lucky to get 10 points. I would not beat yourself up, days like this can happen again. Er that dint come out right. Lol. Yes it was a comp but four hours wi pals overlooking England, Wales, Liverpool and gods village ( Manchester). There good days out.
Been an odd year Mal. 20 points gets you a 0.1 cut. Same as 33 points. Try getting 33 points for half a year winning 13 comps, prob ten in buffer zone and you have only dropped two shots over the season.
However you dress it up. Yup been desperate to get below 20, but meeting up wi you, Full throttle, Man in black, Beezerk, Heavy Grebo, slab etc has been one of the highlights of my season. Loved my time at Norwood, but playing Northumberland and your pad was just joyous. There is a lot to be said for meeting new people and talking Rammel for four hours and getting on like a house on fire.

I've put up 199 in a 36 hole junior open before, think I was off 13ish at the time. Sometimes you have a miss and you know that is the miss. When you stand over it knowing you don't have a clue where its going to go you just can't play

It happens. Always the next game and at least the company was good. I played miserably today, didn't enjoy my golf at all on the course but the company made it worth the effort

On a positive note Mal, if your swing towards the canal was like your swing on the course, you won't get your feet wet. They probably ended up on the banking. 😁

My point was that your post read as if 20 points in a stableford was the end of the world etc - many people do it quite frequently, for a variety of reasons, and I would hate to see anyone seeing it as a disaster.

As to 0.1s ...I could trade you!

I'm sure you'll never see 20 again; I know I will.

Duncan not a disaster but the norm for me now.
At the age of 77 I have decided no more competetive golf for me.
A couple of games a week with long standing pals with plenty of craic and smelling the roses.

My game was horrific yesterday. Stableford off the whites.
Started with a 6 for a point, just missed out on birdie on the 2nd but secured 3 points for par, then got to our short par 3.
Took too little club and tried to force it, resulting in the inevitable big pull, missed the green left and blob.
My driving then went totally to pot, I was coming over the top on every one and either hitting a horrible duck hook or straight lefts.
Had 11 points out, 7 in for an 18 point total.
To be fair, I could have had a few more points than that but on the back 9 in particular I knew I was heading for a car crash score so couldn't really be arsed and missed a few shortish putts because I didn't really want to be there.
I hate this game sometimes.
