Permission to slap....

I'm not sure what the big deal is. There was a letter in one of the magazines this month on this exact same subject.

I understand the tradition/history etc but it's not really worth getting excited if someone calls it the British Open.

It's a little bit 'Peter Alliss' to kick up a fuss.

if it was anything it should be the English Open!!! theres a scottish open, irish, welsh, french etc etc etc

except when its played north of the border then its The (British) Open ;)

Never has a problem with the term 'The British Open', do find it slightly tedious when people from this country get bothered about that.

Ah, but remember GMac is not British.

Waits to see who takes bait....

Stepping up the pedantic plate - you are quite right, my right honourable friend, he is from Northern Ireland, so he comes from the UK.

He would only be British if he came from England, Wales or Scotland.

Clothing - it can be cold there if the wind gets up, rain is an obvious one

Shoes - I always wear golf shoes as the mounds can be slippery whether or not its wet

Food - loads of food places that are not cheap but then why would you want to cart a lunch and drinks round all day?

Great venue and atmosphere and I am sure you will love it!

I am planning to go Monday and Tuesday and might go Sunday
