Pedham Place

Have to agree here, a pleasant society course with no stand out holes.

Get very busy so expect a 5 hour + round at weekends.

Austin lodge is quite hilly so you'll need to have the stamina of a mountain goat.

Think I did a thread earlier 'Courses with silly holes' which sums up my feelings.

Right - going to have a crack at Pedham this weekend (weather permitting) - it seemed fairly easy to get a tee time for a visiting fourball on a Saturday morning, I guess due to it being dreadful weather at the moment.

I'll let you know how we get on!

Welcome to the forum, fellow fatty golfer!

Pedham is a nice course, you may find it hard for a beginner though, i hated it when i first started playing.
Southern Valley is perfect for the beginner, its a links, nice and open and has excellent drainage, it can be played all year round.
Birchwood in Swanley is well looked after too, front nine is relatively easy and theres a lot of water on the back nine.
Austin lodge is the sort of course you would only want to play once or twice a year, its ALLWAYS windy even in seemingly perfect conditions, and is a ******* to walk, especially for us chubbies.
Cray/ruxley are ok courses, cray being the better of the two, good for a knock around to get your game in but i wouldnt join there, they let far too many degenerates play there.
heard good things about mid kent and hever castle, not far from you, and im playing shoreham on sunday, only played once before but i remember it being a decent course and am looking forward to giving it another go.

Hope this helps out, if your looking for a society to join then pm me, theres a couple that play in your area and play at all of the above and more.

Both Hever (especially) and Mid Kent are nice, wouldn't say they were ideal beginners courses though.

Pedham can be busy and weekends, just depends how many societies they have on.
Guess an early tee time would help.

Had a go round Pedham Place today - course was fairly quiet (assume this was weather related) and seemed in pretty good condition.

It was definitely challenging, but despite playing with hands like a digital clock, it was a good day!

Next up this weekend on previous recommendations is Southern Valley, initial impressions from the website and conversations with the place seem ok, but I am a bit concerned at how easy it is to get a 9:40 tee time!

Have a couple of days off lined up in the next week or so too, so will try and get my hiking gear ready for Austin Lodge and there is talk of going for a crack round West Hill again, so exciting times!

Just had a good crack round Southern Valley this morning - course was in fair condition, albeit a bit frosty to start (got given a fiver discount on green fees from the pro for this). Very enjoyable round, only partly spoiled by a super slow three ball before us that seemed to take an eternity on each green.

Definitely recommend for a beginner,

Hello all,
played Southern valley recently and would strongly recommend that or Pedham for winter golf , as both are on Chalk and offer decent fairways and greens, trouble with parkland this time of year is conditions affecting both green and fairway...Boggy
