One of my mates went there for his honeymoon and played a couple of time, but i would rather play a real links course in Scotland Everytime
A lot cheaper too
A lot cheaper too
Yes, you could play all of those and a few other for that matter for that sort of sum
If I paid that money I would demand a 6 hour round. I'd spend the waiting time chipping around the greens.
I personally would find the cost so intimidating, forcing you to enjoy it, that all enjoyment would go out of the window. At that price you feel pressured into enjoying the round and if you hit a couple of bad shots then the pressure would increase. Even as a Euromillions winner, not yet unfortunately, I would still understand the value of money and so would struggle with this one. I would go with other lovely courses, the US is blessed with many.
If my numbers came up I'd also struggle, until I got to the 1st tee, looked out of the stunning course and went 'ooh yess, it's great being minted'
To me life is short and you can't take it with you, so you may as well spend it on a once in a lifetime experience.
It isn't really that over the top expensive to be honest when compared to course back in the UK. Compared to some of the top places in the UK and $500 (£300ish) isn't that much more expensive.
Sunningdale £205
Royal Birkdale £235
Gleneagles £180
Old Course £160
Royal St George's £170
I think if you're going to go to that part of the world on holiday then it may be your only chance to play it, you've already spent several thousands on a holiday there so why not save he money for a green fee too. Chatting to people who have played it say it is not the greatest course they have ever played, but it is the experience of playing a course as famous as that that makes it worth it.
Im im sure the Scottish amongst us would say The Old Course is not the best course in the area and I actually prefer Scotscraig and the Jubilee course as a better test of golfing skill. But they do not give the same buzz as playing the old course, seeing if your man enough to take on Hells Bunker with your 2nd into the brisk North Sea wind, hitting that shot from the 17th tee, walking up the 18th that is what I think you pay for when going to these big famous tournament courses.
Not worth that price in my opinion. It looks a wonderful place and is iconic but not worth a four figure sum.
What 4 figure sum? It is not really that much more than a lot of places on the UK.
Just come back from a road trip holiday in California , on route we visited Pebble beach , it is on a peninsula that has four courses i think and a road running through them called 17 mile drive (not sure how long it isAll look stunning but after visiting i looked into cost . About $450 a round , but you will be put in a four ball , you have to have a caddy and pay for him and a tip is expected . So a fourball is going to be over $2000 !
If thats not enough , to be eligible to play you have to stay a minimum of two nights at the resort and the cheapest villa is about $550 per night ,
Personally even if i could afford it , i couldn't justify it .
Has anyone here played it ? or at those prices would you ?
It even costs $10 to take the 17 mile drive !
What 4 figure sum? It is not really that much more than a lot of places on the UK.
I'm guessing it's because it becomes 4 figures with a nights stay and a pre booked tee time
Without that it's around $450 dollars ? That's Prob about £300 ish which makes it more expensive than anything in the UK
I believe that Wentworth West is more than that.
The visitors rate in summer is £375 I think.
