Hi all, I’ve never been that big a whisky drinker, but I really like the peaty taste of laphroig, the 10yr one, are there any other ones like it to try?
Thanks

Coal Ila. Bunnahabain. For choice I'd go for the Coal Ila.

Laphroiag is probably the peatiest you'll get.

One for you, if you fancy something not peaty but definitely different - Old Pulteney.

A lot of the Islay Whisky’s are peaty, Bowmore, Bunnahabhain, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Bruichladdich and a few more.

Edit:
Caol lla is another Islay Whisky Hobbit has mentioned above.

Any of the other Islay whiskies is a good reference point for peatiness; Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Lagavulin, Bruichladdich, Bowmore, Bunnahabhain. In no particular order, they're all good.

Laphroaig is and always remains my favourite .

Thanks folks
I really like the laphroaig but would like to try a few others too.
Going to try the ardbeg I have tried now bowmore and its canny too.
I have a 12 year oak something Glenlivet in the cupboard, I might give it a go to.

Well you'll notice the difference. :)

If you see a bottle of Smokehead anywhere, grab it. Lovely drop that appeared briefly in duty free then vanished.

Yeah I sure did BiM, it was still nice.
I have a few bottles that have been racking from gifts but I’ve never really been that bothered but a wee glass is rather enjoyable on a weekend!

Never much of a whisky drinker but I did try Jura Prophecy once.

Do like the Isle of Jura though. It's mysterious, difficult to reach and where Orwell wrote 1984.

10 year old Ardbeg is as good as it gets, better even than the older Ardbeg's in my humble opinion.
Laphroaig is a bit too peaty for me.
I'm inclined to (almost) agree, though the slightly older ones - single cask strength bottlings via The Malt Whisky Society - can be smoother without losing the peatiness.

Lagavulin is my favourite 'end-of-evening' one though! As Murph posted...so smoot; Laphroig is almost 'rough' in comarison, but excellent al the same! Bunnahabhain is very under-rated imo. Everything you would want in an Islay in (too?) perfect balance! Same, for me, as Royal Lochnagar for Highland style - under-rated because the balance is so good, nothing stands out!

I'm going to be busy online looking at the different makes, but I look forward to trying a lot of them over the next wee while.
Lagavulin, and Ardbeg will be the first ones I think!
