it's interesting the past champions who don't elect to play.
Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Just in Leonard, Ian Baker-Finch are a few that I haven't seen playing for a while.
I know that Faldo does commentary now, as does Baker-Finch - but I would imagine that these guys (assuming they are fit enough) have decided a few years ago that they don't like shooting 20 over par and they don't take up their spot.
This does let additional qualifiers in, which surely isn't a bad thing.
As nice as it is to see the likes of Sandy Lyle plod his way around - its no more than sentimentality for fans old enough to remember him playing.
I'm sure that Darren Clarke is embarrassed with his performance. (ok, so he would still be playing with a 10 year exemption) and is maybe trying to find some form for the Champions Tour but that's a pretty shocking 2 days for a guy who got decent conditions to play in.
Langer maybe would be in the same category of these guys, except that he only qualified as a result of his Senior Open win last year. And lo and behold he makes the cut.
