Pars against handicap....

Not looked at it but would guess around 6-8 per round. Trouble is I am chucking some big numbers in on a couple of holes per round which with the odd double and bogies means I am struggling to make buffer zones by a shot or two.

The one thing I know is that the lower the handicap then the more par's you expect to make with a few birdies to compensate for a few bogie holes. One thing for sure is that it's easier to make bogie than to make par.

HowDidIdo allows you to see stats for each cat of golfer to compare against your own (it's on the HowDidIDo analysis)

Cat 1 pars 52.83% - approx 9/10 pars
Cat 2 pars 38.04% - approx 7 pars
Cat 3 pars 22.80% - approx 4 pars
Cat 4 pars 11.40% - approx 2 pars

My average was 29.72 (5 pars). Which as a 12h/cap seems about right - i.e between cat 2 and cat 3 averages.

(Hope the maths is right)

Have a quick scan of HDID over past couple years and although I haven't done especially well in comps, I guess, its reasonably representative. Least pars was 1, most was 6. But 3 and 4 cropped up an awful lot and in roughly equal measure with 5 not far behind. Therefore average of a bit under 4 for playing off 20

Since October, I've had between 7-12 pars a round according to my stats. If you call that 9 as an average, I then add probably 7 bogeys or worse and 2 birdies which have given me scores of 71-82 during this time.

The 71 had 9 pars, 5 bogeys and 4 birdies. The 82 had 8 pars, 5 bogeys, 1 birdie and 4 doubles. Seems I'm always getting the pars in, it's just what happens on the other 9/10 which decide my fate!

I would expect an 18 handicapper to average 3 pars a round. Adding to that maybe 10 bogeys and 5 'others'. But that's purely giving it 5 minutes thought at my desk ...

This! Exact same process for me, tend to average 10-12 pars per round and my score is totally dependent on what happens on the other 6-8 holes. Usually bank on 2 birdies, it's keeping the blobs away that makes the real difference
. Once had 18 pars in a round, felt like Faldo

I know that normally I will get a fair number of pars in a round, the thing that determines how good the score is, is what I do on the other holes.
This is best demonstrated in a round near the end of last season where I had 8 pars and a birdie, but also 3 doubles and 2 quintuples. Hence my aim for 2014, to play a qualifier with nothing worse than a bogey. If I can achieve this my handicap will definitely fall.
