PARMO

I think moderating should be left to the people who run the site.
I've moderated and even been a site admin. Moderators come and go, ok they spend time on the site and keep their eyes on things but occasionally play God and delete/ amend posts which THEY feel are unsuitable, often to the detriment of the forum as a whole.
I agree, gratuitous, contentious and tasteless posts should be deleted.
On the whole, this forum is used by level headed members who share the same pleasure in golf. The odd rogue post will appear from new and old member alike.

If posters think "Is my 7 year old son/grandson, daughter/ grandaughter likely to see this post?" I would hope it would make them think twice about posting something of an offensive nature.

Just my opinion guys. :)

Maybe a good idea to delete this thread now as I think it should be left to blow over.

Dave, it depends what you mean by moderator.

If by that you mean that some users would have the power to censor or delete posts that offended them, then no. I consider myself to be pretty tolerant and easy going but some of the squabbles lately have annoyed me to the point that had I the power I would have deleted those posts, which would probably have been an abuse of such power.

We should all have the power (and duty) to flag offensive posts. There was, I believe, a post in the thread discussing forum improvements that suggested red and yellow cards. Perhaps this could be considered.

(I did not see the removed post. If it was as divot states then on other fora, the poster would have been blocked.)

IMO its a good idea, loadsa forums have members moderating, then all's it leaves the gm staff to do is deal with complaints. I.e moderators taking advantage of their position. Might aswell let the guys who spend most time on here see things through! Look how long its took for some one to step in here, or not!
