Got to admit the whole gender argument confuses me and its something we some how got to discussing in the pub as a family in Christmas day. My young brother in law is learning about it all in school and was explaining how many different genders there are now and show me this link which lists not all but most currently used and accepted genders

I actually with you here LP, we often hear that people don't want these labels for fluidity or just don't believe in labels then come up with their own list to ensure they're accurately identified.

Personally my outlook is can't we rather than judge on sexuality, just accept everyone for who they are and who really cares what someone's preference is as long as they're a decent human being, I don't care who someone loves, what sex they are or identify as. Everyone is entitled be themselves and be happy and love whoever they choose to. Yet we have a society that is starting to refuse labels by creating new labels of their own.. So after all that I'm back to being confused.

For me, I’m all for anyone’s sexual orientation. But gender is simply defined by your anatomy.

You can call yourself what you wish and that’s not a problem, but when ticking a little box on a website, job application or passport etc it should be m/f.

Some of the recent cases of sports stars being allowed to compete in opposite fields (generally a male becoming female) is ridiculous, they may consider themselves a women but they will have a physical advantage.

The one thing I have noticed recently though is that some people who are gender fluid/non binary can be quite confrontational. I’ve witnessed more than one occassion when they have started arguments with people who simply didn’t realise the person (enter correct term here) wasn’t a women and have proceeded to lecture the poor girl on both occasions for calling her babe.

I'm all for people being whatever they want to be, and if they have enough like minded people then by all means campaign for some form of formal recognition. However, there has to be labels. What graphic/label do you put up on a public toilet door? How do the local council plan for services if they don't know what the demographics are?

If you were born a man/woman, whatever your mind tells you, and still have all the tackle then the respective toilet, associated with your tackle is already labeled. I wish, on your behalf, that there were half doz different toilets but, sorry, that's just how it is.

If anyone understands what the following means then fair dues to you (y)

"Remember, while sex is typically assigned by doctors at birth depending on genitals, gender is a social construct. People should be able to identify with whatever gender they feel best suits them, be it male, female, non-binary, genderqueer, or genderfluid regardless of what the doctor in the birthing room says. A sexual orientation, such as pansexuality, is different than gender identity, but for pansexuals, gender identity is not what makes them into (or not into) someone. Dr. Powell points out that as it’s a newer term, younger generations, such as Generation Z may be more likely to identify as pansexual over bisexual. "

To accept the term pansexual over bisexual you have to accept that there are more than 2 genders, a difficult concept for many, even I struggle with it a bit.

Sorry but, if they have had hormone treatment the physical adventage is gone.

Is it. Things like reach (in fighting) or height in running for example won't be negated.
Also, with the athletes I refer too, I'm not entirely sure they'd have a treatment that would have a detrimental effect on their physique when it's what makes them money.

Is this really true? I think back to the case of Fallon Fox, a transgender MMA fighter who transitioned from male to female. Surely things like bone density, hand size, the weight of her hips, her body mass and skeleton that were fully developed before she transitioned won't have been reversed by hormones and serve as a significant advantage when fighting a woman who did not fully develop as a male? In certain sports it is less of an issue, but for me, I am not comfortable with a male-to-female transgender athlete fighting a female, just doesn't make sense to me.

For me the testosterone thing is a red herring. If you reduced any male athletes testosterone level to the equivalent female level would he still punch well above his comparable weight in female competition? Of course he would. Less testosterone doesn't reduce size, muscle mass, or biological structure. I think someone coined the phrase 'gender doping' and for me that is just about right.

Ashlee Evans-Smith punched the crap out of it though. 😉

all I can say is I used to be able hit a 5 iron nearly 200 yds, now I struggle to hit it 130!
How many years ago did you hit that distance? Also, you're an amateur and your life choices which are everyone's to make came above a career as a sports star. I accept that hormone treatment can have an effect.

But without knowing the science. Surely more or less can be taken. Most of the sports stars mentioned certainly appear to retain physical advantages.
