anyone thinking of going to Russia this summer should watch tonight's programme and stay at home.

Under Putin it's like Russia in the old communist days. A police state with agents following in toe spying.

I certainly wouldn't go there to watch football with their hooligan reputation.

You forgot the one about opposition parties being snuffed out by any means necessary, it would seem. I can't believe the Russian people aren't opposed to him and the system, are they really that brainwashed by the state tv channels?

Just North Korea but closer to home.

Putin snuffs out any opposition. He controls the media and state propaganda.
I wouldn't be travelling to Russia as a football fan at the moment.

Most Russian people are like anyone else, and just get on with their lives.

You're only likely to be followed, or become a target if you are involved in politics or state interests. Just like if you are involved in certain things in the UK, you may accidentally zip yourself up in a bag, in your bathtub, and not be able to get out.
Remember, just because you are not physically followed, it doesn't mean you are not followed by web history etc..

I'm no expert on Russian politics, just anecdotal from a few Russian people I know.
