Evening Guys,

Realised how much this is effecting my swing and have had a good luck around on youtube about this...

Im looking for what you think are the best drills/ways to cure this?

I am going to try the head cover an inch outside the line next time I am out but are there any better?

At the beginning of the year, I decided I wanted to hit more of a draw. The drill I found that worked really well involved two alignment sticks - one in front of my feet parallel with the direction of the shot, the other one slightly angled in on the right side. It made sure that on taking the club head back it was inside the line but also helped on the follow through as well.

It was nice and simple and definitely worked for me.

I like this drill:

Increased my lag and stopped my over the top tendency.

I've spent the best part of 2012 trying to fix my over the top move.

I think i have finally got it sussed....

This is my swing from September 2011

and from a few days ago
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlEYVDSB3fs

A HUGE difference.
I'm really happy and a lot more consistent

Good job Tim.

I notice on your takeaway that you rotate your right arm so that the clubface fans open, I'd offer that you want to try and keep the underside of your right forearm pointing more level with the ground instead of up to the sky, allow your shoulder turn and hinging to bring the club up. If you don't fan the club open you won't need to come down to steep to close it again. If anything it'll stop you getting sunburnt on the underside of your right arm which can be very sensitive ;) LOL

My swing thoughts to make the transformation are basically summed up in this video. Highly recommend it.

Hi James

Thanks for the tip.

My next thing to work on was my wrists, i have a very late set, at the top, which i think makes my backswing look more flat than it actually is, and i hardly get any leg on the way down, i want to be more like charl

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swCYoF9b9PI

I hadn't noticed or thought about my right forarm.
I get what you are saying, my bad shots are pushes and hooks so i guess that makes sense to what you said
Bad shots happen when i don't steepen my downsing enough to correct my fault in the backswing, ironically more of a technically correct swing

Will definteley work on it at the range this weekend.

Its all in the back swing ;)

You have also shortened your backswing, much tighter now. Amazes me how many overswing with irons, trying to reach horizontal and beyond (Sounds a bit Buzz Lightyear) Have a look a one of the best iron players, Luke Donalds swing, and see how far he takes it back.

Hi Guys,

thanks for all of the advice and videos...I am really working on this at the moment but have a round tomorrow - Do you guys have any ideas of quick fixes to get me through the round. Obviously I know it wont cure the problem but a friend recommended keeping my arms in tight so theybrush against my chest throughout the swing etc. Any ideas?

After watching this I took my camera to the range tonight and tried it.

It's a lot harder to let the club drop nicely flat than it looks, and after watching my shiny MP-69 land on its head and bounce off the front of the range once I didn't try it again. I did rehearse it without letting go of the club though, just letting my hands support it as it dropped slightly in the transition, and after a few minutes of that I had a go hitting balls.

I have NEVER had a drill produce results so quickly!

As anyone who saw my swing thread a few weeks ago will know, I come over the top slightly (?!?) as well.

This is a still taken from the 1 swing I filmed. It's a bit dark because it was done at 240fps with only range lights, but you can make out the head level with my silly hat behind me, and a bit of the shaft in front of my sleeve near my hands. I've never seen the shaft so low on my downswing before.

Can't wait to play tomorrow now!

I'm doing the headcover drill everytime I go down the range. Hoping to correct the minor OTT move that I have. Also trying to take the club away on a more steeper plane - will see if those things can make a difference.

great result region3!

its a brilliant drill to quickly get you into the slot all better players seem to get into...

i've found the my best results are with the driver, let the club drop into the slot, then i can really feel myself turn into the back of the ball to give a good smash.

This is the flattest i've managed to get on the downswing it so far, with my pre shot routine to get the feeling

I only took a 6i and PW with me, but am looking forward to giving the driver a damn good thrashing tomorrow!
