This morning I felt a twinge as I hit an 8 iron into the greenside bunker on the 9th. When I hit the bunker shot I felt muscles tearing, and was in immediate agony. Been to casualty who say it is torn abdominal muscles around the left side of my lower ribs.

Still in huge pain - question is, how long to heal? Anyone done this before? Doc says pain for 3 days, better in a week, play gently in two. I'm headed to Royal North Devon in 3 weeks, really worried. And what about reoccurence? Just two normal shots.

Not happy!

Big ouch!

I wouldn't play for a couple weeks as Doc suggests, then build up slowly - very slowly - gently stretching and not going for it. Not that I know anything - if it was me I'd probably be out tomorrow making it even worse!

Rent an oxygen tent for a fortnight.

Hope it heals in time for RND.

The trouble with hurting muscles anywhere near your ribs is that you can't totally rest them because it hurts just to breath, and as for coughing and sneezing, I don't even want to remember the pain. Mine was an intercostal muscle, inbetween the ribs.

I was told 6 weeks when I did it, but I felt ok again and was playing in a couple of weeks.

Take it easy as much as you can, and occasionally take a few deep breaths, as you breath shallow trying to avoid the pain, and that's no good for your lungs only filling them halfway all the time.

I'm dreading my first sneeze. Wy wife is trying to make me laugh, she thinks this is funny. At least it gets me out of running the line at my son's football tomorrow.

Fortunately I was by the clubhouse being the ninth green. It was all I could do to get my clubs in the car and get to A&E, so unfortunately didn't get to finish the round. Ibuprofen gel and painkiller tablets, but a few lagers last night feeling sorry for myself helped.

Has calmed down today from wincing agony when I move to sharp pains if I move in the wrong direction.

Thanks for the good wishes.
