Optishot Golf Simulator

After reading this thread I know what I'll be suggesting to the wife when she talks about what we do with our cellar!!

Hi Guys.

Has anyone used/tried out/got the Optishot Golf simulator?

Thanks!

I have owned one for about 1 1/2 years. There is good and bad. Before I do that though, I have been happy with the support I have received from Optishot. I have asked them 3 time for assistance and they have always been prompt and given applicable advice. Meaning they have actually read the email. They also sent a free upgrade to Ver 2.0 to all ver.1 customers. It is a real upgrade and does improve performance. I have not experienced any of the bugs they refer to. The previous software was more susceptible to false high club speed when topping the ball. The Par3Proswing and the Optishot do not detect club height.

Good things: I gives good performance for the price. It is half the price of the P3Pro Swing. I suspect the Optishot is less accurate. The P3Pro claims 30+ channels for the detectors and greater accuracy. The Optishot has 16. There appears to be 32 but the electrical connection is in pairs. There are 8 pairs before the tee and 8 after. Lighting can be an issue. Follow their instructions in the setup. I have seen one post of a fellow using 2 CFL's in desklamps above the detectors. They sit a couple of feet above the club path. Haven't tried that. The Optishot has trouble with some clubs. I had one driver that it could only see if I swung at about 80mph or less even with a reflective strip. It sees the new driver much better. Both had reflective souls. (That sounds philosophical) My putter is always seen as 2+ degrees closed unless I swing about 5deg open. Then it approaches neutral. I have had two putters and both have had the same problem. The custom club settings are important. I just can't seem to adjust the putter sufficiently to take care of this. I haven't asked Optishot yet.

To me the greatest downside of the Optishot is that you will eventually club the plastic housing to death. I have had to resolder or replace the Infrared emitters (little lights in the slots, you can see them in low light) several times. The plastic housing has now degraded to where it is useless. Yes this is after numerous low shots with the driver by myself, my son, my sons-in-law or friends. The replacement housing is $200 USD. They only sell it with the electronics. I have made a metal housing-not quite finished yet.

These simulators, the Par3Proswing and the Optishot, are best with an overhead projector and a fast computer. I bought a used game computer for $80, had the monitor, I bought a used 1650Lumens projector for $50 that needed a bulb-again used/NOS for $20ea. 1650 lumens is a little low. I have to play in lower than normal light to see the projected image. I use one row of fluorescent lights in my garage. These are located in front of me and at 11ft high. The row above me casts too much of a shadow not allowing the Optishot to work properly. I cannot see anything with two rows on and the far row behind me is too dark on its own for golf. A cheap white linen sheet in front of the net works well but does eventually tear. Of course the $1400 reflective screen works best. I don't have one of those.

Hope this helps, I would recommend the Optishot with the above limitations.
