Optishot Golf Simulator

I have used one, really good! you can hook up a playstation to it too and use it as a controller.

Dean Halford from here uses one for his teaching too.

I have been trying to talk my bro in law into buying one and fitting with projector in his massive garage!

For the money, its great.

Thats good to hear! I've got a fairly big double garage. And being a kid, can't drive to the golf course, so I can't always get to golf course/range, as much as I would like (Everyday). So i think this could be an alternative!!

you need to think about the total cost, ideally you will need a PC to run it, a screen, some netting, and a projector IMHO. So while the unit is cheap, to do it well you are looking at about a grand. Plus then a beer fridge!! can i come round when its done?!!

I have one, it's very good but you have to get the setup correct!

I have just purchased a short throw projector for it, which cost me £500, lighting needs to be spot on and you obviously need a pc too. Mines all set up in the garage, absolutely love it

I have one. Very good for the money. I have it linked up to my laptop and on to a bigger TV screen so no need for a screen you hit into and projector ( though that would be fab).
As others have said, you need to get the set up right to get correct distances, otherwise you are just kidding yourself. Where it is very good is on club alignment on impact and ball shape. The simulator courses are very good but I use the range option more. I use mine in my indoor practice net and I cut a piece out of my mat that allowed me to insert the hitting pad into the mat. This gave the advantage of hitting off a level surface rather than having the pad on the floor, which results in the ball being an inch or so above your feet. This also gives more confidence that you are not going to hit the pad across the room if you hit one fat! Picture below.
It isn't a GC2 or Flightscope, but it is good fun and if you can get past the feeling you are using a toy it is actually a good piece of kit.

I have had one for several years now, I use it when I can't get out to the range or the course to keep the swing going. Do I trust it 100%, not really but for the price you won't beat it and it's a great laugh having a round with a beer and a few mates. There is rumors that a launch camera addon was in the works but as of yet nothing has come of this. Also online play is in the pipeline which is another plus for the optishot.

However that being said the home simulator market is picking up so it might be worth hanging on for a few months. The Golf Club PC game on steam has already linked up with Protee so other sim manufacturers may also jump on this. You also have the soon to be released SkyTrak launch monitor (which they say will be affordable), if they can integrate this with software like E6 or even The Golf Club it could be the ultimate budget home setup.

That Sky Trak looks interesting...

If they price this well they could be onto a winner. Various sources reckon it will be around the £1000 mark maybe a tad more. Nothing official yet. They are apparently at the Wyndham this weekend so maybe the product launch is imminent.

Sweep, where did you get the True Strike mat from?
I bought from Truestrike direct in the UK www.truestrike.com and enter your location as United Kingdom. They have a UK office and everything arrived next day.
They are not the cheapest mats but I have found nothing that compares. I guess you get what you pay for.

To right they aren't the cheapest! Seems almost a same to cut one apart to fit the optishot thing. If that Skytrak can be implemented with a golf course sim then it will be the ultimate option combined with that matt.

By the way. I would just like to register my jealousy ;)

Ah, but... There are the gel filled Truestrike mats which are very expensive and the non gel filled mats for teeing up drivers etc and standing on, which are just expensive -not very expensive. It was one of the non gel mats I cut into. The gel filled mats are really good for hitting irons off though, soft to hit off and you do feel like you are hitting off the fairway and almost take a divot. Easy on the wrists and gives good feedback.
I have to say that this is the first I have heard of the Skytrak and it looks really good. IMO whoever gets an accurate launch monitor to market first at around £1,000 is going to do very well and I am sure the peeps at GC2 and Flightscope will be watching closely. With the advent of apps and better technology it is going to happen soon and it looks like Skytrak are in pole position.

Def sounds like they are trying to produce a "real" retail product that works for club golfers. The Flightscope new range is nice, but at £2-3k is still way out on pricing.

I did some more digging and found a simulator forum for Pro Tee which has lots of little tit bits from a couple of the mods who seem to be testing the units. Is all a bit hush hush, but for guys looking at GC2's they are saying wait....

Lets hope this starts the procession of new products and price drops in existing units hey....

Sweep - any pics of your home setup with the Truestrike?

Awesome!

Is that a Vector pro and es12 I spy?

Question- do you find swinging indoors effected your game negatively at all? I mean by trying to compensate "fitting" your swing inside the roof, walls etc it didn't give you the hozel rockets or anything?

You have sharp eyes! Yes a Vector Pro and an ES12. Both brilliant in different ways.
When I set it up I made sure I had plenty of room, so I haven't experienced any problems with adapting my swing to the area.

Are you looking for any new friends over the winter???
You are most welcome to come and have a go.
I have to say that I was in there pretty much everyday last winter and my golf hasn't improved, though signs are starting to appear.
Hitting off a mat is just not the same as grass and all the types of lies you get. Seemingly there is no substitute for playing on a course when you are looking to improve.
EDIT: To be fair, my ball striking has improved massively and I genuinely think I am a much better golfer because of this set up and a few lessons. It's just that my actual scoring hasn't improved.
