Looking at the pictures it appears a little flat, is that so or are the pics deceptive?

I think even when I had a very very well paid job I would not have wanted to pay 1500 quid to join a golf club, nor would I like 1250 pa fees.

Although it looks a great track and has names I have a soft spot for, I couldnt justify spending that kind of money to myself. Id be happy to play it but not join one at that price, I can join two up here for that.lol.

Herb, the joining fee is £250 at west malling which I dont think is a disaster.

It can look a little flat in the pictures but the Spitfire is quite undulating with a couple of decent climbs. The hurricane is more flat.

The way I am viewing it is that it is £1250 for 2 high-quality courses.

Will let you know how I get on today.

Although I live within easy travelling distance of West Malling, it's a course I haven't played yet...but would be willing to give it a go.
Mate of mine played the "Spitfire" course a couple of weeks ago, it was his first visit and he gave a very glowing report on both the layout, and condition.
I might well venture out there in the Spring.

Rob, If I join I will give you an invite as my guest mate.

That's very nice of you Jon.
Even so, looking at the visitor green fee it is only £2.00 more than the "members guests" so even if you don't join I would be up for a knock

I have seen it featured in a number of the freebie papers (club golfer etc) and they are advertising for societies. The rates look really good as do the pictures on the website. I actually think if I lived that way it would tick most of the boxes. I'd need to look at practice facilities if it were me (and being a practice junkie)

Homer, the practice facilities let it down and the bunkers have no decent sand!

Its only the fact that it has two courses which carries itself. It is good that you can play on one course while there is a competition on the other!

Spitfire is by no means a flat course! apart from the 10th and you could say the 6th All tee shots are up or downhill hill obviously there are flat sections on the other holes but predominantly there are many twists n turns with their fair share of hazards! On the other hand hurricane has more flat holes! holes 6-12 are a bit bland as they are on the additional bought land across teh road! Although all the holes on the main site are pretty good! 18 on hurricane is the best whole on both courses closely followed by 13 on spitfire.

so anyway jon how did you get on today?

Good mate, they are re-doing every single bunker on the course btw!

Liking the gym equipment in the locker rooms and also the jacuzzi and steam-room for a bit of unwinding.

Love the lengthy driveway to the clubhouse, deters scrotes walking in and pilfering from cars etc.

The Manager said today that he is prepared to waive the joining fee for me which is grand, he gave me loads of time, gave me a great tour and even offered me a free courtesy round before joining but TBH I will be joining next week, I thought it was fantastic.

I haven't found anywhere to be honest mate. Im pondering over the sutton valence ridge http://www.theridgegolfclub.co.uk/

There are few options available for w hati want to pay which is a shame! i might just have to get a pay rise instead!

My first 2 years at West malling i was still living at home with my parents so i had plenty of spare cash at that time! Now i gotta be more careful, but you all know that by now, i havent shut up saying how skint i am! lol

What with me being the sole earner it aint all fun and games but then as long as the bills are paid, liv and the mrs dont go without and that we can still live a decent lifestyle, Im a happy bunny!

Sorry I put it in wrong, I meant 1500 to join and fees for first year inc. I know there are two courses and can understand a slightly higher fee for that but you can only play one at a time and its only one club after all. By having two courses do they have twice as many members as a club with one course? Unless the club house and facilities are geared for that I doubt it. I would suspect that a limited membership have to pay extra for the prestige, yet the club has the benefit of more visitor potential to make money. 1500 quid for a years golf would only be worth it to me if I could play about 4 or 5 times a week, every week including winter.lol.

No golf on sundays for me, thats a big hay-making day for me, I sell more motors on a sunday over the course of a year than any other day!

OK Jon. Point taken.
I work every Saturday but get a day off in the week every other week. Usually it is either a Wednesday or Thursday. Mondays are the only day that I can't get off as my boss goes to auction and needs me in the office.
I'd like to give WM a go one day mate so if you fancy a knock, give me a shout.
