Only on a bank holiday

Played in a 4 ball this morning in the glorious sunshine. All was well with the world as we all holed out on the 1st. However, my 2n tee drive was interrupted by the 4 ball behind us as they shouted and generally made lots of noise on the 1st green.
We quietly remarked between ourselves. We didn't recognise any of them, obviously visitors.

Anyhow, we played on. We could obviously hear them shouting to each other, looking for lost balls, remarking on good shots etc. Didn't really bother us until we were stood on the 14th tee.
One of their balls slammed into my bag as I leant against my trolley waiting to follow our drives.
We waited a few moments until they came close to us. "Yours is over there!" one of them shouted.
I shouted back that a shout would have been good. A muted apology came from the better dressed of the 4. One was sporting camo cargo shorts and collarless tee shirt. God knows how he'd got past the pro when they booked on (If they did)

Now, I'm no golf snob in any way. I just thought these four should have learnt a bit of course etiquette before setting foot on the course.
Do the bank holidays bring out the bad golfers at your spot?

Several Continental Countries have a test you need to pass before you can venture on Course. A kind of Theory Test - just to make sure you know the basic rules and ettiquette.

Couldn't do that over here though - it would stop people playing and cut the numbers of Golfers......

Over there it's expected. Over here it's not.

Would you be allowed to play for a Footy team or Cricket team if you didn't know the rules...??????
The world is governed by Rules of some sort that we all follow.

Except by Casual Golfers it would seem

sadly, friends that I play golf with often behave like this. I'm constantly explaining golf etiquette and I always tell myself, "next time I won't come with them" but months later we'll give it another go and they'll behave the same. Bank holiday or no bank holiday.

I always abide by the rules personally but golf has got to the the snobbiest sports. A lot of people like to think they are superior to others because of dress sense etc. A lot of golf club rules are outdated and need to be brought into the 21st century

The rules at most golf clubs are reviewed regularly and, like my club, the dress code is what the majority of members want because they tell us so - so they stay - dont play if you dont like it!

I actually enjoy putting on my golf gear to play. The etiquette isnt much to learn and a lot is just common sense and decency not snobbery.

I'm no snob but it is times like Easter and bank holidays when I'm glad I'm a member at a private club and it is only guests of members allowed. Although it isn't a 100% guarantee at least there is some chance they've played a bit before and have a rough idea how to behave. Couldn't face a muni/pay & play over this weekend and with the good weather bringing everyone out

To a certain extent, I don't care what people wear, what's important is how you behave. That's not snobbery, it's courtesy. Sadly it's something that is no longer 'common'.

So despite not getting any (golf) this weekend, you've just reminded me why I should be glad I wasn't out there. Thanks for cheering me up.

Homer, my club's private too, at least one of the party must have been a member. I suspect the guy who was more suitably turned out.
They mustn't have been short of a few quid though. It's not the cheapest course round here, especially on a bank holiday!

My club sold £1600 worth of green fees on Friday alone.

I'm guessing next Friday will be similar. Luckily I have a tee time booked. I didn't play last Friday due to decorating, but it hadn't occured to me it would be that busy.

To be fair, I've found that this sort of behaviour often doesn't come from visitors, but from the old stalwart members who think they own the place!
