Our ladies section plays one medal and one stableford per month on a weekday, with working ladies having the option of playing their medal /SF on an alternative weekend date. Each day clearly has its own CSS, but we combine the scores for the rounds for prize purposes.
Recently one weekend medal had to be cancelled because of snow / frost / temporary greens/ plague of frogs or something, so was rescheduled.
The date coincided with a Club Trophy comp, open to ladies or men. Enter once on any one of three days friday to sunday. Book your own tee time

The ladies were told that they could enter the Club trophy comp by submitting the card from their ladies medal round.
So some signed two entry books, paid two entry fees, but played one round of golf.

The weather was foul with horizontal rain so I think none of them finished their round so NR.

And were told that they go up 0.1 for EACH comp so increase of 0.2.

Seems wrong to me!

What if someone played under CSS? would they have had their hcp cut twice?

Although there were in effect two prizes being played for, the competition is only one Qualifying Competition. Assuming the committee were not wrongly trying to enter two separate comps into the computer system only one handicap adjustment will be made.

thanks rulefan.
Our hcp Sec does not like being questioned so I wanted to be on firm ground before asking him about this

you are on very firm ground :)

think of it in the same way as divisional and overall honours; basically the Ladies 'event' is a division of the overall competition field for scoring purposes - there's only one handicap element.

Idiots often don't like to be questioned. Certitude is quite often poorly correlated with being right.

Many Handicap Secs have little clue about the handicapping system or the rules of golf. Yours is setting a new standard for being clueless.

Surely it's bad practice to be trying to use the one score for two different competitions.

Not at all. Many clubs play Gross and Nett comps at the same time or a Monthly Medal incorporated with a board trophy comp.

Gross & Nett for the same comp I can understand, but a Monthly Medal and a Board Comp at the same time... no thanks ;)

A Qualifying Competition is only something that exists in the CONGU UHS for handicapping purposes.

What prizes a club wishes to award are entirely their business. A congested diary due to course closure etc, convenience, tradition or simply to get a bigger field are reasons a club may go down that route.
