Ever get one of those rounds where u get punished for your bad shots?

I shot 95 at the weekend but can honestly say I was striking my Irons better than I have in ages. So I walked off disappointed with my score and my pocket £2 lighter.

I made 4 pars and 3 birdies so there were lots of positives from the round.

But it was just one of those days, when a mishit led to a triple bogey. Made 5 in total.

Funny feeling I had in the bar after its the first time in 6 weeks I have not shot under my handicap but I feel like I am playing my best golf. Make sense?

4 pars plus 3 birdies = 11 holes of nightmare golf. Assuming your course is a par 70, you threw away 28 shots in 11 holes? Bloody hell man dear.

makes complete sense mate. I had a similar experience on Sunday. Hit some cracking shots that always seemed to find unrepaired divots, tricky lies, unraked bunkers. I even hit the flag from 40 yards, travelling really slowly, but somehow ended up 10ft from the pin and in a huge hollow in the green. 31 points....No doubt the luck will even up though, it always does....

I had my worst round ever on sunday and it started because I was hitting good shots but they were the wrong shots, partly because of the wind I guess. I was ok with it because I was still making bogeys but in the end I let my mind totally slip and had nothing left to give... not even going to tell you what I shot.

On the way home I was wondering if I might like fishing... :o :D :D

Dont let it get to you, if you were hitting the ball ok then you will be ok in the long run. Myabe spend some time looking at your exact shot lengths for each club.

Tell me about it. Stood in the middle of the 16th fairway with 6 shots up my sleeve and blew all of them, buffer but 2nd in the scratch.

Brendy - put like that ie 11 holes of nightmare golf me recount the scores (dont have my card here)

Here it is in its glory

not quite 11 holes of nightmare golf, but 7 nasty holes did all the damage

11 shots dropped in the last three holes, now that is how you close out a card!! I bet you probably sunk a great putt on the 18th too :D:D

Bluewolf - yep, on another day it might not have been so bad. Like I said in the OP, was actually ok after and looking forward to goin out again next saturday.

Slicer, the 10 deserves its own anecdote... how did that one come about? At a guess, it involved at least one reload off the tee? ;)

I drove the 10th green on Saturday, into the teeth of the wind. Shame I was playing the 15th at the time :(

Did somebody say Man Deer?

That's golf for you. My last 7 rounds have been 74, 91, 75, 76, 79, 83, 76. Spot the odd one out :D Golf will throw bad rounds at you but what matters is how you respond to the bad round. If you're playing well, forget about it.

Monty - if you look at the triples, on most I rally afterwards making par or birdie.

the 16th was a kick in the teeth, its our long par 4 SI 2 which plays uphill.

Good drive, 5 iron which comes up short about 20 yds. duffed a chip but it made the fringe of the green. so still in good shape to get up and down for bogey, but a few wild putts and I finish with a 7.

So stepping onto the Tee at 17, I am now 4 shots behind the leader in the group. Tee shot goes right into a patch of rough between 16th and 17th fairway, all 3 of us agreed it should be found. Unfortunately it wasn't and I had to play the provisional. Hit that against a tree and into rough again about 220yds from the green. SW out of there and I am 150yds with 5 played.

Top a 7 iron to leave me 70yds, lob wedge onto the green and leave about 30 feet :(

3 putts and in for a glorious 10.

Recounting it here, was just about as painful as playing it lol!

I had a similar round although I don't play to your level I really felt good playing shots a lit better than usual with great trajectory and flight. I had so many unlucky bounces etc I think I found every ditch pond etc! In the end I just tool heart that I had played better but the score just was not there!

A birdie on the 5th is a good score anyday of the week! Quality.
What happened on the first...? :D

Imurg - I hate the first hole with a passion.

Whatever I do I end up in that ditch with the bridge.

Only joy I get is the layup with an 8 iron, and then another 8 iron to leave a wedge in.

So Sat, 8 iron left me 20 feet from the ditch. 2nd shot I topped it into the ditch lol.

No Idea what I will try saturday, 4-iron goes about 190-200 so depending on the wind might give it a shot. Got nothin to lose.

re the 5th - first time in 18 months on the course that all the whole 4-ball made the green. there's usually someone drifted into the bunker or into that rough on the right. They had the Pin in the Top right hand corner for the club chamionships which actually made it play a little easier as we all had uphill putts.
