So, two weeks ago I got my first cut - 0.2 which took me back to 10 (10.4).

Today was our monthly stableford.

I started on our 10th hole. Standing on the 14th tee I had 7 points. Steady but not impressive.

I then blobbed 14 and 15.

Standing on the 16th I knew that today wasn't my day and that I'd be back to 11 (10.5). The company of the other three was great so I knew that I'd have a good day anyway.

I then went par, par, par to end up with 15 points on the back nine (my front nine).

Still rubbish I thought but not a disaster.

My game was scrappy. I was driving the ball well. My iron play was OK. I didn;t feel 100% in control and the strikes weren't true but the ball was going where I wanted it to. My putting was also good. At this point, no three putts which is very rare for me.

I then played the front nine (my back nine) in -1 gross!!!

I couldn't believe it!!! I've NEVER played a sub par front/back nine before!!!

I ended up with 24 points - 39 overall. I came second in the swindle - 44 points won it!!! :D

I won £30 but the thing that's making me smile like a nutter is that for 12 holes I was -1 GROSS!!!

I knew I could do it.

Moral of this story?

You never know when your round is going to turn around.

You don't need to be hitting the ball perfectly to play your best golf.

Oh, one other thing, I should be 0.3 away from single figures....... :D

Wow that is some nine holes. Great play. I got 34 yesterday and a bit like you my game was scrappy but somehow managed to accumulate the points. I guess you know it is in there now so just have to believe a bit more. Great news and another good cut - well done

Well done that man. :) Just goes to show. I bet you were depressed after the two blobs.
Then 12 holes 1 under par....wow....

Did you know at what point you'd turned it around? (points-wise?)

If I'm a few points down (2,3,4) and get some 3 pointers, I always cheer up once I realise I'm back on target.

I was very down and I think this may have had an effect on my game. I decided that today wasn't my day, my game wasn't good enough and I suppose I relaxed. My score wasn't important anymore and I just decided to enjoy the day, the company and the banter.

Did you know at what point you'd turned it around? (points-wise?) I'm not sure. I think it was around the 5th hole (my 14th). Normally I'd go to pieces but, for some reason, today was different.

Fair play fella I done a simular thing today, at 14 I was 8 over for the back nine and on the 15th tee I turn to the other two in my group and say jokingly " I'm paring in" one of them laughed.

Par, birdie, bogey, par was the score for the lady four

"Where were you playing and off which tees?

I think this is aimed at me"

Errrm. No. I was replying to oddsocks.

"Redlibbets - off the whites. "

So you are a member there are you. Met some of your Vets last week at a big meeting at Broome Park. Haven't played there for a few years. How is the course maturing?

It's coming along nicely. The greenkeeping staff have had some problems with the irrigation system - a pump broke during the recent hot spell so they had to water the greens by hand. As a result the greens got badly burnt. Thankfully the pump was repaired and the greens are now watered through the night.

The fringes are still knackered but they've declared them all GUR so we get a free drop. It's to protect them and to try and get the grass growing.

The tee boxes suffered the same fate as the greens but they're recovering nicely as well.

I'll bear that in mind when I play there in a vets inter club friendly in a few weeks time. I'll let you know when it is so that you don't turn up hoping to get a sub 6 hour round :D :D :D :p :p
