On the verge of giving up again

a hobby is for enjoyment. if you are no longer enjoying golf then go fishing or collect stamps or whatever you do enjoy. Life is too short mate to waste time on something you do not love.

A good point, I played rugby for 27 years. Loved it and it was my life, eveything revolved around rugby or training. Then I started to realise that I was getting slower, the game was changing and it was taking longer to recover from the hits I was taking. Started enjoying it less and less so quit, took up golf and have not looked back. Life is too short to do something that you do not enjoy so if I were in that position I would quit, try something else for 6 months to a year and see what happens. If you cannot find a replacement, golf will still be here next year.

I wasn't enjoying it. As I said in the OP I was fed up of putting time and effort into practicing, playing well in terms of ball striking which is as good as it has been in many years but not converting this into scores. Add in the fact that the handicap has gone up and not down and I couldn't see the point. However my point tonight is given I've just shot a PB and another good round today, do I try and ride the good spell out and reassess, stick with my original decision, or plow on again when the scoring returns to normal but knowing I can do it and it may return again, hopefully a lot quicker

trust me nobody on here has been playing as bad as me this year, having lessons has totally screwed my swing up,still love the game though and will keep trying to to find that impossible thing we are all looking for

The fact that you're reading and posting to a golfing forum at 10:30pm on a Saturday evening indicated that you do enjoy golf and should carry on playing.

Not really - more HID watching crap on the TV and so on here to get away from it.

Well give up then and give everybody a rest from 5 pages of woe is me , there is always an undercurrent of "I am doing something right(ballstriking or whatever) but my score/handicap is going up and I dont like it" even reading you latest post to your blog it starts with "Right, lets get the downer and disappointing bit out of the way first" FFS I know of many people that would LOVE to shoot a 75 but you always manage to bring negativity into it. If golf or anything makes you feel like that try something else!

No one is forcing you to read the post or the blog. If you'd read the latter properly the frustration was playing my second round on the Sunday badly, and had I played on the Monday that 75 would have won th gold letter board event for me. I'm sure even you could see how that would take some of the gloss off an otherwise decent round.

Ok, shall we all agree to reconvene in a week or so time when we can go through it all again? Perhaps jazz it up a bit next time?

On the verge of snapping my clubs/ trolley/ arms, if you aren't going to do it you could say whatever you like anyway.

Empty vessels...........

Maybe I didnt say what I meant too well, but you went out shot 5 over and were still complaining about this or that, there is ALWAYS a "but" with you, you are never happy regardless of how well you played so therefore if something makes me unhappy I wouldnt do it.

ADHD often springs to mind with Uncle Homy.

Its either that or a complete rake of pish!

If you'd played like I did today you would off topped yourself I know I felt like it, just those few shots that say it's in there trying to get out. I was in a right foul mood when I got home of it wasn't for playing the last few holes half decent I would have left all my gear there!

I would say I was garbage yesterday, but it wasn't that good

Got beat 4&3 by a guy that was 3 over his handicap after 15. I'd already had 77 blows by then.

Life goes on. I know I'm capable so I'll just have to find it gain :)

Was rubbish in the medal today (nett 79 +9) but had gone out like a blonde Essex bird with nothing going on in the brain. In the end didn't think enough and wasted loads of shots from 30 yards and in by not thinking about what I'm doing. Spoke to my teaching pro and we're going to look at dithcing the pre-shot routine (hoorah went the crowd) and look at ways of playing without thinking. Also reading Rotella's Golf is not a game of perfect. Still did better than Hawkeye who shall we say was a little worse than me and was struggling a tad. As long as it was a one off as he's the lynchpin of our team GM Volvo assault

Utterly fascinating.

Haven't you given up yet? I would if I was you.
